    Hey all,
First the disclaimer. I am merely a dumb firefighter, and about 90% of the stuff in this forum will go right on over my head.

I have a 5515 Acer that has given me 3 or 4 great years, running Vista. No problems whatsoever.
This AM, McCaffee downloaded the latest updates, then said I had to restart for them to take effect. MC doesnt do that a lot, but it has happened. I restarted, and now it will hang with a blank screen, and my little harddrive light blinking in a rythym, about every second. It will do that for hours.
When booting up, it will show the screen with the message "Press F2 for setup" at the bottom, then go to the Microsoft screen with the small graph like thing scrolling left to right. It then goes blank, and I have to power it off with the button to do anything.
Do not have the recovery discs anymore, and have never had to use them. I can press F2 to get into that menu, but am too scared to play there.

Any help would contribute greatly to getting my side job/life back in order.
    Thanks!

Use Alt-F10 at startup to access Acer eRecovery Manager, it'll let you reinstall your Operating System if needed.

Chances are McAfee hosed your OS. It's notorious for trashing Vista installs. You could also be facing down a HDD Failure. If you've got another PC around, try getting ahold of the GWScan (Hard Drive Testing Tool from Gateway) ISO (CD Image) and using it to test your Hard Drive.
