    5570z processor upgrade

    Hi all,
    I have an Acer Aspire 5570z notebook (Intel Pentium dual-core processor T2060 1.60 GHz, 533 MHz FSB, 1 MB L2 cache).
    It is quite slow for vista home premium.
    Can I upgrade it with core 2 duo processor?

    after I see your procesor in intel site probably is socket M, as far as I know you can upgrade your processor with core 2 duo as long as same with socket M i.e T7200, T7400, T7600, CMIIW :D

    Yep, you can go to a Socket M 667FSB processor. I would suggest the T7400, i found the price difference between the T7200 and the T7400 very small (~$20 on ebay)but the jump to T7600 was much more (+$100) for not much more performance.

    If we're looking from the processor socket, this notebook is suitable for core 2 duo processor (with Micro-FCPGA package).

    But from the chipset details I found:
    1. Mobile Intel(R) 945GM/PM/GMS/940GML and Intel(R) 945GT Express Processor to DRAM Controller - 27A0 (from Device Manager->System devices).
    2. Intel i943/940GML (from PC Wizard 2008).

    If the chipset was the second one (940GML), I'm not quite sure it can be upgraded with core 2 duo processor.
    Based on http://www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/datasheet/309219.pdf, this chipset only support 533-MHz FSB.
    Furthermore, the "interleaved" message didn't come on BIOS initialization after upgrading my memory with 2GB dual channel (each with 1GB DDR2 667Mhz).

    I hope any Acer specialist could explain this matter.

    Check out the Sticky Link.

    The Aspire 3680, 5570Z, 5570 and the 5580, used the same chasis, but different chipsets.

    The Acer Aspire 3680 and the 5570Z share the same chipsets and motherboards, 940GML and the 943GML.

    If the 940GML, no dual-cores, T1350 - best CPU.

    If the 943GML, yes to dual-cores, T7600 - best CPU, upgrade to the latest BIOS.

    Ways to identify the chipset are given in the Sticky. Hopefully, your's is not the 940GML. :)

    Andy, since he mentioned he's already got a Pentium DC, one could assume that it's not the 940GML. ;)
    Still, I'd double-check just to be on the safe side.

    Oh yeah. I never checked the 1st post. :p

    It should be the 943GML, so a Core 2 Duo shouldn't be a problem. Just check the Ram-Bay code to confirm it.

    The RAM-bay code is MBAZL06001xxxxxxxxxx.
    It is most certainly 943GML type.
    I hope it also support Dual-Channel Interleaved mode of operation.
    I still couldn't identify this mode.

    Yes, it does support True Dual Channel if you install 2 identical modules (buy a Kit). (2x1GB Max)

    BIOS v1.3505 or above for C2D.
