Just took delivery of an aspire 5613. All going well under Vista, better than my main rig anyway, except for sound. Even at 100% it is not loud. Audible, but not what it is meant to be. Through headphones works as it should.
Any ideas how to fix.
Sorry if covered before but have not searched or read the forum for ages.
TIA

Standard notebook speakers are not known for good output when it comes to high sound output. Just use headphones and it should be ok, either that or you could plug in some external speakers and you should get decent sound then.
Your notebook should also be using realtek HD audio(icon is on the taskbar) check some of the sound output settings in there and see also if it makes the output sound any clearer. -
Thanks for that. Everything seems OK so I'll assume that the sound on this machine is just not good through the speakers. I plugged it in to my external amp/speakers and had terrible background hissing. Headphones looks like the only way to go. Shame that

You could always use a pcmcia sound card.

Do you have an external amp/home theater receiver? If you do and it has an optical input, get an optical mini plug to toslink adapter and an optical cable. The headphone jack is also an spdif output. Make sure your audio output is set to Digital Audio Device rather than Speakers.
