I've been having a lot of problems with my acer 5670 in the past couple of weeks. The fan RARELY comes on anymore and my system is overheating + shutting down.. a lot, whether it's on battery power or even worse yet AC power. I used to hear the fan kicking on and running consistently but now I'm lucky if it comes on once a week. I even have an external fan but it doesn't seem to help. I've tried searching for solutions but haven't found anything yet. Is there anyone out there who could give me some tips? I can't tell you how frustrated I am!! Thanks in advance!

Take the back panel off the laptop and remove the fan, check for dust and bad connections, reconnect and try again.

Don't remove anything for the moment. Just check that the fan isn't blocked by something like built up dust. If not, then the fan may have become faulty. If your under warranty, then Acer should be able to fix the problem.

Have you updated the bios settings yet? If not, they have released new ones that enable the fan to come on at a much earlier temperature.

I tried to update the BIOS using winplash but it keeps giving me an error. Also, what's the newest BIOS that came out?
