I browsed the forum and I found interesting article about solving the heat problem, I followed the instruction but the temperature is still high, I measured with speedfan 4.34 at rest and I got these values: HD=39, temp1=55, core0=89, core1=88. If I use the graph I see that the core is increasing since I turn on the laptop, the temp1 is constant, is that right? Now I was wondering what is temp1 and is it more important than the core temp? I went to acer website and downloaded the bios for the 5670 (I couldn't find the 5672, any hints?) but laptop is still boiling, any help much appreciated!

Those temperatures for the processor are too high. Try and use a different program to monitor the temperature, like Notebook Hardware Control (NHC). If they are the same, then it may be worth cleaning the notebook, which could be causing high temperatures due to the dust build up.
-
i have vista BIOS
and i only apply AS5
i get this while normal use
and maximum is 65 for the core
i don't use any external fan but i use to not put my laptop on soft thing -
that's the chart i get
Edit: i forget to said that while on the AC Adapter and maximum performance profile in Acer ePower -
How do you keep the HD temp so low? I've got a laptop stand with an open area underneath for airflow, and my HD temp is almost 50 idle.
-
Sorry to but in on theard but how you get you temps so low?
q8phantom
Mine is hd = 37C
temp 1 = 57C? winch i asume = bad is temp 1 like chasiss temp?
my core1 = 43c
core 2 = 43? -
mm..
i checked know again
but keep in mind that image after less than 5 minute from wakeup from hibernate
if you don't shut down your computer and use hibernate instead and don't put it on smooth thing as i said
i don't use any type of fan i just put it on a table
maybe because the table is cool
sometimes i really get hight temps
but most of the time like this -
mine is boiling, core0, 1 are over 70 at rest and goes to 90 with photoshop, I wonder what happened inside the cpu, I put a tiny layer or artic 5 but it didn't help much

I have said this before and I'll say it again because it is summer and it obviously is quite warm out.
#1. The 5672 should NEVER get above 70C load (72C if it is very warm out). If you are daring or know what you are doing replace your thermal compound - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=77860
I recently replaced my compound again because the temps were creeping back up there. That and compound should be replaced every yr.
#2. Speedfan has long had issues with reporting the correct temps on the 5672, as a result I would not suggest it as a reliable source for monitoring your temps. A better program is NHC - http://www.pbus-167.com/
#3. Never put your laptop on a flat surface, always keep something propped up behind it (a book, the AC adapter, something) so that you have better airflow and overall cooler temps.
Overall the 5672 is a great laptop, and if you configure it properly with the right software and maintain your hardware it will run well. I don't plan on getting a new laptop for at least another 2 years at the rate this pc is holding its own. It is exactly 1 yr old last week

but here in Kuwait you can't go outside
my core temp is less than the weather tempand it's most of the day 50C out door
-
wow, here is 38 but my 5672 is going to 74-76, and I use the trick to lift the bottom of the lapt with books in the corners, I replaced the artic 5 with the explained process, I removed all the tinfoils and put fresh paste, but it didn't help. Even using NHC the values of temp are over 70 at idle, maybe I need a new heatsink with the tinfoils back, where can I get one?
Tom -
2 things to take note of here.
#1. Make SURE you used enough thermal paste on the heatsinks (GPU / CPU)
#2. Make SURE you flash your bios to the newest revision, there was a problem with the APCI settings a few revisions back (causing the fan not to turn on properly).
After installing new compound I saw a 10C drop in temps (I spiked @ 80C one day and I knew something was wrong) so make sure you used enough compound!
--ssx-- -
thanx ssx, I changed the paste again, now is around 72, I flashed the bios with the latest version for vista but it didn't help, I reckon I should have left the foil on the cpu rather than remove it...what version of bios are you using?

SO IT's Dust CoverCan I remove it on mine(Aspire 5920G STILL UNDER 1 Year ITW)
-
no if you do anything like that you'll void your warranty
if the warranty is not important for you then go remove it -
Please read and look at the pictures! It is NOT YOUR DUST COVER. There are 2 peices of foil on your heatsink. One is on the GPU the other on the CPU!
The link you were given was not the best one to give imho. Use this as a base guide - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=77995
From there you'd want this one - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=77860
The dust cover issue is resolved by replacing your compound imho. My laptop did not come with one, and now I stay under standard temps with better compound and cooling overall.
Take a razor blade and remove them, then clean the surfaces with isoproponal alcohol. Read the guide, decide if you wish to do this, and THEN proceed. Don't be reckless in your decision making here -
Well like I advised him in my previous post...
the search function is there for a reason!
Anyway it is now up to him to decide based on what he has read what he wants to do. I agree with SSX4life in saying don't rush this think about it before you make any decisions because it isn't reversible once done. -
There is a reason I have a link to google.com in my signature. Please use it accordingly
Even then I doubt people know about the advanced search options or how to use it correctly but that's not my responsibility.
again please use the search..... thanks

I've read this thread with interest, as I haven't kept up with the 5672 since last year. I downloaded the synapse winflash utility and the bios (ZB1_3236.WPH) mentioned in this link:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=101829&highlight=5672+vista+bios
It almost finished up and then I got a blue scr and reboot. Using NHC it shows my bios as:
1.3221 date 2/24/06
that can't be the vista bios can it? acers site shows 1.3236
?? I used the advanced winflash utility. should I have used the one that DL'd from acers site for vista? btw I'm still on XP home.
the Flash BIOS v1.3236 for Windows Vista from acers site was looking for a 1209.rom file that wasn't in the zip, so I did the synapse flasher and bios on a previous thread.
I'd sure like to get my fan to kick in. It only does once in a blue moon.
appreciate any help -
Your fan should always be on regardless (on low that is). If it is NOT then we have a bigger problem of your APCI settings not working correctly, I have heard about several 5672's that have done this in the past.
If you can give some more info on temp's that would be great -
i didn't know that about the fan on low. it is running on low right now at 53 deg. I wonder if the new bios helped. I also hear a sound like a fan near the left usb ports, but no exhaust anywhere, when the fan isn't running on low.
i usually use an antec cooler to keep the temps around 55-58. Otherwise they climb to 70 deg.
something has definitely changed since the bios change. it's 52 deg now w/o the cooler and i've never seen it that low.
do you know what bios I have now? I believe it was 3219 before flashing so 3221 has to be newer right?
thx for your help -
sucessfully updated my bios today using the winflash utility that came with the 3636 bios.
