Hi, new to the forum here.

Had my 5672 for a year. Recently installed Vista on it, no problems. Also upgraded the BIOS as recommended by a knowledgable person on another forum - again, no problems. This was one week ago.

Last night, out of the blue, my laptop turned itself off. Well, it just went off right away - it didnt shut down.

So I turned it back on and it seemed ok. 2 hours later, same thing.

So booted into safe mode and ran a spyware scan, got rid of some stuff.

Rebooted - safe mode, anti virus scan, hour into the scan the laptop went off once more.

When I attempted to reboot nothing happened. Laptop dead, no sounds, no power, no lights - nothing.

Tried it on battery-only mode, nothing.

    Battery+ AC mode - nothing.

AC mode + no battery - nothing.

SO now I have a non-functional 5672 laptop. I am certain the warranty is up, too.

Any suggestions? Has this happened to anybody else before?

    Devestated.

    Thanks in advance, appreciate it.

Edit: a bit more info. AC adapter works perfectly on my brother's laptop, so that isnt the problem. However, when the AC is plugged into the wall and switched on, but NOT plugged into the 5672 the power indicator light shines brightly as expected - when plugged into the 5672 this light when goes dim and flashes on and off. Whaaat?!

    Ok something else.
Just opened it up and noticed this thing dangling around inside.. dont know if this is to do with anything, though. Just seemed a bit weird that this green thing (attached to the inter-twined red and black wire) should not be connected to anything..

Pictures below (its the green thing to the right of the pics)

That cable that you see there runs and holds your Cmos battery. It is used to keep the time / date of your system when it is not on or plugged in.

As far as things to do I suggest you do this.

#1. pull the batter and AC and let it sit off for 24 hours. Then press and hold the power button for @ least 20 seconds, this will discharge any electrical short inside the laptop.

#2. Go look up that flashing, it sounds like you have a power problem with your system (possibly a bad short on the mobo connection etc.

Call acer support, I'm sure they have a suggestion as well.

No progress at all, still dead.

Battery has been out for 24+ hours, held power button in for 30 secs then tried again but nothing.

AC adapter still blinks lightly when connected.

Gonna have to wait till Monday then contact tech support and/or arrange for it to get fixed asap/

Just curious as to whether or not you actually solved this issue. As of this morning, I am officially in the same boat. Has anybody solved this issue?

    Thanks
