Just got my new 5672 with an x1600. Checked out the drivers, and they were outdated. Whenever I try updating my Catalyst version from 6.1 to 6.5, I get an error message ("INF Error, video driver not found" or something like that). dxdiag says everything's fine with my directX (I just re-downloaded it from MS and reinstalled it) and I can't find the VGA driver for my display on the recovery disc, so it still appears as "Default Monitor." Any ideas?

If you try to install the ATI drivers downloaded from ATI, you will not be able to install it. You'll get "INF Error, video driver not found". You need to download mobility drivers (ATI's website doesnt have any for x1xxx series), so you have to download new drivers from Acer. Some new drivers from Acer require BIOS update as well before installing. However, drivers from Omega etc install fine.

Ah ic, are drivers from Omega any good? I'm a little sceptical cuz they aren't from the card manufacturer.

    good? yes.
    great? most likely.

the omega drivers(anyone correct me if i misspeak) are tageted for more high-end graphics users like gamers or anything else that is graphically taxing.
but you can definately trust omega. they have been at it a while and have been doing a great job.
i haven't used their drivers for my laptop just yet but i have for my desktop and i soon will for my laptop.

I have the Omega 6.5 drivers installed and no problems except for the stange lack of installing a second adapter as the Omegas and other ATI drivers sets have on my desktop system. I have a X800 Pro in my desktop and the drivers always load a second set of drivers for another adapter. Probably for a dual monitor setup. But I can't, for the life of me, figure out why the second set is not being installed for the x1400 in my 5672. It's also capable of running a dual monitor setup as it has DVI and S-video out just like the x800. Go figure.

Maybe it has something to do with the question "Is your card a Desktop or Laptop" or something similar that pops up during installation?
