Hey all, I ordered an Acer Aspire 5672wlmi last weekend from Page Computers for $1,116.14 including shipping! This is the 1gb ram 100gb hdd version and is a great deal! The page address is:

    http://newsite.pagecomputers.com/st...ategory_name=68g68c284s2388&product_id=997201

From the limited experience I've had with them, they seem to have great customer service. I entered the last digit of my credit card wrong (6 instead of a 9) and they sent me an email the next business day and I called them. They resolved the issue by contacting my bank etc. and ended up giving me expedited shipping for free; so now it should arive sooner than it would have before.

I hope this helps those who may be in the market for such a laptop. I know I couldn't pass this deal up!

Edit: Hmmm... I didn't mean to select this catagory. Could a moderator please move it to the Buy, Sell, or Trade catagory or whatever catagory is correct. Thanks.

I am looking for a computer that is exactly like this, but I am hesitant becasue the pricing seems way to good to be true. Also the graphics card says it uses HyperTransport or something, which means it uses system RAM and does not have its own dedicated. This makes things alot slower, but by how much I dont know. I'm going to look around this thing some more and see if I should get it.

I think this needs to be moved to the Acer thread. A mod will do it for you and welcome to NBR.

The X1400 user Hypermemory which is simply saying that if more memory than the dedicated 128MB onboard is needed, it will start to utilize system memory.

This website does not clearly state what is offered in this computer either. I feel like I'm not getting to know the product very well. Like it doesnt specifically say that there is a 128 MB dedicated video Ram. Does anyone have any opinions on this notebook?

if you can afford it get the 2gig model the graphics has 256mb dedicated on there , which will be useful especially if you are thinking of playing games :)

I heard that getting the dedicated 256 Mb ram was not worth it because the x1400 could not handle this added memory very effeciently and that it was just practically negligible increase in perfermance.

I'd go with the added memory (in fact I did), just for the fact that down the road there may be some overclocking that will make it useful. Also, if you (we, me) upgrade to Vista in a year, I've heard it wants more memory and uses it more effectively.

Re. cost, I think I picked my 5672 at CompUSA on sale for $1250 after rebate, not a whole lot more. Probably be on sale again in a week or so (maybe tomorrow?).

That's true- if the GPU isn't fast enough, adding memory will not help at all- and the X1400 is not fast at all by today's standards. This is true with desktops as well. Lots of reviews and benchmarks to back this up on the hardware review sites like Hardocp and Anandtech. System memory is a different story, but you still run into the classic "diminishing returns" scenario once you get over 1G unless you use your system for very demanding stuff like heavy photoshop work or lots of video editing.

So the x1400 isn't fast by todays standards, but what is the current standard? Is the standard applied only to laptops, or is the comparison against desktop video as well? How much slower is the x1400 comparatively? The most graphic intensive app I'm running right now is WoW, and I honestly don't notice a difference between my desktop and the laptop.

Just depends on what resolution you are using and how much eye candy you have turned on. If you try to run any current generation game at 1280x800 with anti-aliasing and anistropic filtering turned on, the X1400 will give you a slide show. If you are running at 800x600 with medium settings and no AA or AF, it is probably pretty decent. Just depends on what you can live with. I don't do much gaming on my laptop, so it really isn't that big an issue, but I do use it for multi-media stuff and even show high def clips so that part of the video equation is important and the X1400 is good for that.

I ordered my the acer 5672 for 1116.14 on tue 3/21. For 2 days it was "IN PROCESS" . I tried the online support at least 5-10 times before I got thru. I decided not to take the faster shipping, cos i figured that it wouldnt b much faster. I hoped it wud get here this week itself, but i guess i have to wait for next week. Hopefully nothin is wrong with it. 3 days down and still no tracking no. THe laptop bag i bot from buy.com, i ordered on the same day and got here the next day.. with free shipping. HOW COOL IS THAT? Faster shipping doesnt help unless they process fast.

I hope everything will went well for you. Keep us informed and give us details about your upcoming feeling with the machine.

It would be very interesting to see if it perform well in terms of battery life. Current 5672 seems to get 2.5-3 hours but some people beleive than low voltage core-duo who give better autonomy are not available in 5672 yet.
