Hi everyone,
it is my second thread here, this time i need your help regarding a display driver
Thanx to netrolller.3d I purchased this video adapter for an Acer Aspire 5720ZG. The 8400M GS which came with this notebook got broken and netorolller.3D gave me a list of compatible adapters that might work with this notebook.
After the display adapter arrived from its seller (bought from e bay) I used a modded .inf and the driver from http://laptopvideo2go.com.
The version I installed is 180.70, adding the modified .inf. Both driver and .inf provided by above mentioned website.
I have to point out that the operating system is Win XP x86 (SP3), windows vista or 7 are not valid options in this case.
So I heard that it might work better in terms of performance with an up to date driver, a much closer to our days version, but some .inf has to be modified.
In the 180.70 the modified .inf supplied by laptopvideo2go.com is nv4_disp.inf.
I guess the latest 295.73 does support Windows XP only for desktops but not for notebooks using win xp, so, I've been looking around for verde drivers and the latest verde driver for windows xp seems to be 266.58.
I downloaded 266.58 and I'm ready to try to install it but of course it is not working. It seems I need to modify inside the driver some certain .inf's, Netrolller.3D pointing towards nvac.inf and saying that's the .inf that needs to be modified.
Yet I see in the ListDevices.txt (provided with the driver) that 9600M GT is listed in so many .inf's that i will list them belowthe following inf's:
In device manager the the details regarding display adapter are the following ones:
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_056710DE&REV_A1
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_056710DE
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&CC_0300
I assume my subsys is 056710DE, but none of the .inf's from below has such a subsys.
Maybe you'll tell me which inf should i mod and how, i mean what exactly to erase and what to add and inside which particular .inf.
I'd like to make it work thanx to your expertise.

In nvac.inf, replace all instances of "DEV_0649&SUBSYS_011E1025" with just "DEV_0649".
-
hi netrolller
Ok, I opened nvac.inf and there is only one place where "DEV_0649&SUBSYS_011E1025" is listed.
I edited acordingly to your advice and it looks like in the attachement.
I hope it's gonna work.
thanx
Quick later edit:
I quickly tried to install the new drivers, and the message "Install cannot continue; This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics driver" doesn't appear anymore.
I guess it's a go
I'll remove the old ones with some driver sweeper and then I hope 266.58 will work just fine.
Netrolller, how comes that you knew which particular subsys out of 19 subsys'es has to be edited? Man...you left me speechless)
Chapeau!Attached Files:

That's because it doesn't matter which subsys to remove - what matters is to remove only one subsys.

I see, well thanx for the precious tip my friend
One question: do you think that if i'm going to add inside nvac.inf of the 295.73 version the lines with 9600M GT from 266.58 it might work?
I doubt that but you definitely know better than me.
Perhaps 295.73 could be used exclusively for win vista/7.
So, upgrading to the newer version of drivers worked like a charm, I get rid of the older ones with driver sweeper and then installed the 266.58 (with that nvac.inf edited according to your advice.
Right after that I was curious if there will be any improvement in 3dmark2003.
Unfortunately it was not. On the contrary there was a decrease by aprox 33% by comparison to the result obtained with the modified 180.70.
Truth be said, I already installed some other programs after the initial test got performed , yet I think the gap is kinda huge in a negative way. The decrease is pretty relevant and somehow unexpected to be honest.
Perhaps that test 3dmark2003 it is not so relevant, who knows.
But, on the other hand, I noticed that PhysX, and OpenCL are now active and of course there are more informations that I previusly had in GPU Z in the second tab - sensor.
I will atatch both results, the best was done with 180.70 ->15.457 while the 11.019 is the new result with 266.58.
One final idea... what do you think about a video bios update? I've got Nibitor and a modified video bios version from laptopvideo2go.com forum and there is a guy who has basically the same display adapter (with the same Subsys) and he updated the video bios with some version modified by him.
Just an idea...Attached Files:

Try editing the desktop 295.73 driver, replacing the line for the 9600 GT (non-M) with the hardware ID of your card. (This will cause the card to show up as a desktop 9600 GT in Device Manager, but that's only a cosmetic issue.)

great idea
i'll try it right now
9600GT appears to be listed in nv4_disp.inf :
DEV_0622 "NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT"
DEV_062D "NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT "
DEV_062E "NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT "
DEV_0637 "NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT "
But look what I've found in nvdd.inf:
DEV_0649&SUBSYS_90131043 "NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT"
)
I've tried to change in nv4_disp.inf from DEV_0622 "NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT" to NVIDIA_DEV.0649 = "NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT" but it seems it is not enough the message is the same: "this graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware" -
Edit nvdd.inf then, remove the subsys.
