My machine is running 7.When I log on, or after a brief period of time,I have a window pop up saying that my hard drive is sending a failure error back.Should I trust this? The pc is about 1.5 years old.Another issue I have is the lack of a copy of 7.My computer is an Acer, so I did make the recovery discs, but that won't do a clean install of 7.How can I transfer everything over to a new hard drive?

Please post a SMART status (all the attributes) from i.e. HDTune.
-
Thanks.I'll see what I can do.
Here's what it gave me.The slow scan kept over heating the HD at 55C.The quick error scan came back clean with no damaged blocks.Attached Files:

I'd like to see the contents of the health tab from HD Tune.

No results turned up in the health tab.I'm going to run HD Tune again since I've slept on it.

We're still not there

Regardless you should back up your data immediately and proceed to buy a new HDD.
While I'm not a big fan of SSDs (or to be more precise their prices in relation to capacity) I'd urge you to consider a cheap SSD as a primary drive.
What happened to HDD prices as a result of floods in Thailand is eye-wattering. It looks like you can get a 120GB SSD for the price of 1TB HDD. -

That's it- and the bad news is the HDD is already dead.
The surface of the platter is going and the value itself is very high so it's not a single sector.
If you haven't done so already back-up all your data as this is going to get worse meaning some of the sectors that are readable now will not be readable at all in near future. -
Backed up.Looking for a replacement HD.

Drop us a line when you decide on something- I'm afraid this happened at the worst possible moment when HDD prices skyrocketed.
