My wife "bricked" the notebook by pressing the fn/esc key while powering up. now I have the "Black screen of death"..... Seems the Bios listed for this Model is Bios_Acer_235_A_A-->4810T,, (Go figure).....First question, I can access the HD(Hers), via MY computer, where is this "crises Program package" located on the drive? (Vista Home premium)....OR........(I've read the service manual) but doesn't tell where this file is located.....
Second, I have the bios, Do I need to make the flash drive "bootable"? before flashing with the bios I've DL'ed?What # do I remane the bin file? eg:JM41x64.fd????? what is the correct filename for My bios? it is GPCo235.BIN change it to XXXXXX.fd?
I've been at this/searching for almost a week, and at My wits end......
    PLEASE HELP!
Correct instructions will help... Sincerly thanks.... CT42

Why did she press Fn+Esc? I am just wondering.

The Service Guide is for computer repair professionals and does not have all the required information. The "Crisis package" must be downloaded separately (you can find it online, or here on forum), it does NOT come with your computer. That being said, you do NOT need it to restore the BIOS.

Actually, I do not think there is anything wrong with your BIOS. Try unplugging the AC adapter, removing the battery and then press-and-hold Power button for 30 seconds. Release. Press-and-hold Power button for 1minute. Plug-in the AC adapter and see if computer turns on.

    BIOS flashing:
    Google is your friend: http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/447246-acer-aspire-timeline-5810t-bios-restore.html
And small flashing guide for 4810T, should be same as 5810T: http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/419036-bios-recovery-4810t-2.html#post5671953

    Summarized:
    1. Take a USB flash drive that is formatted with FAT32 (usually default), it must be EMPTY, no folders and no files.
    2. Rename to BIN file from BIOS archive to JM41x64.fd and copy it to the USB drive
    3. Rename to BIN file from BIOS archive to JM51x64.fd and copy it to the USB drive
    4. Copy F L A S H I T.exe (no spaces) file to the USB drive. It should be in the BIOS archive you downloaded
    5. Plug-in the USB flash drive in any free USB Slot on your 5810TZ
    6. Press AND hold FN + ESC keys
    7. Press the power button
    8. Release FN+ESC after 5 seconds or so.
    9. The computer will turn on and flash the BIOS from the USB drive. Should take approximately 1 minute.
    10. Computer will reboot automatically.

Ok, sry , See, I "build" gaming machines & such for myself, Wifey caught a virus, didn't want to have Me know, thinking she was doing a "restore" She has now "Bricked" the machine... BTW, she is blind...
I've flashed Many a bios, but , this insyed bios "boot lock" has Me confused, as i fear the Bios became corrupted, thus the "black screen"..In addition there IS NOT hardly any info on the 5810TZ, (a wal-mart special)....
I'll try the above & report back....
I'll be using a Older drive formatted to FAT32...
I've heard 2 addition(s) with or with-out the battery pack in....While performing the "restore",
    Which is correct?

5810TZ is the same as 5810T, 5810TG, 5810TGZ, except for slight variations in configuration (such as graphics card). You can find a lot of information on those models.

I don't think it matters. I'd say keep the battery in when you are doing BIOS restore. If it doesn't work, try taking it out.

Prikolchik, thanks for the info ....
good news is, i got the notebook, "un-bricked" it now will boot to the Bios.
I did all the above, no go, no go, it was reading, trying to boot into the HD/cd would spin etc.. but wouldn't flash from the Flash drive..
I ended up pulling the hard-drive out, it then would (by default?), boot the cd then FD... Waaaaa-LA! it Flashed..
No all thats left is to clear the long forgotten PW in the Bios to finish up, trying to recover the HD partition, Windoze itself.. It boots up into the HD, then just shows the letter "j" on the screen,, HUH?
For anyone needing to clear the BIOS PW, it's ez....
Look at where the Memory slots are.. there's a triangler, "jumper" thats Labled G-61...

MODS if it's ok I'll post the details/correct steps, on BIOS PW clearing.... on the 5810TZ...

    1 Power off system,
remove HDD, ac adapter & batt from computer..
    2. Look for the hardware gap, (G-61)... it looks like 2 gold triangles...It's near the "end" of one of the Dimm slots...
3.Short points between gap with electric conducting tool, "eg paper clip"
keep points shorted, while plugging in ac adapter, power up into "post" is finished...
remove conducting "tool" power off, reboot....
PW should be removed from bios... If not try again...
