I have an issue:
My recently bought 5820tg makes an annoying high pitched noise when not under load - the only way to seemingly silence it is running benchmarks or games.
I am afraid to return it to Acer since they look three weeks last time and refused to have a repair covered under the warranty on this laptop, hell I even mentioned the issue then and they apparently took no note of it.
Any advice?

Unfortunately it's "normal"...
Google CPU whine / capacitor whine.
I would try to get it exchanged and pray the next one doesn't have it. -
Okay, this is stupid.
Based on a random youtube comment here:
YouTube - Dell M65 Notebook and whine noise PART 3
i had the same problem...... I FIXED IT... wuha
it had something to do with the usb-hub.
go to hardware manager...
deactivate one of your USB-root-hubs..
if the sound stops.
then right click..prefferences,power managent : and UNcheck: "can switch of to save power"
since i translated from german im not shure if itl work.. let me know
grex
Disabling worked, unchecking the box did not.
In other words, the issues goes away if I disable all my USB hubs.. which are fairly important!? -
Thanks! I was having the same problem as you. And your solution worked. Disabling the usb ports seems to remove the noise. This is stupid, im going to call the store where i bought my computer on Monday. Hope you managed to get a new computer, i know i pray i will

So i went to the store and talked to the guy. The store i bought the computer from is called elprice, and is one of the elprice stores in Norway. The people at the store hadnt heard of anyone else who had the same problems. But they recognize the high pitched sound as abnormal and gave me a new computer, promising me that if it turned out to be a problem with the entire 5820TG model, i would get my money back.
So they were quite nice and gave me a new computer without any fuzz. The new computer is excellent, and i cant hear a trace of cpu whine (thank good).
So i guess my advice is to go back and try to talk to the guys at the shop. Now i went back and complained straight after i recognized the abnormality the day after i got the computer. It guess it would be harder to get them to give me a new computer straight away if i waited let's say 2 weeks. This is why i think its always a good idea to wait until you have the time to properly test the new computer thoroughly for a few days after making the purchase
