    Hi all...

I have a 5920 with XP SP3 on it. I was trying to burn some CDs the other day and all went well. At the end I put in a CD to see what was in its and when done I tried to eject it and the drive bay would not open - I tried it ejecting it from Explorer and by pressing the button. It would not open. So I had to use a pin to eject it. What is the problem? Can this be fixed? I don't use the drive very often but its kind of annoying that I have to stick things into things to open things - don't read this in any other way than in the context above please!

    Thanks

Have you tried resetting the OS and then try opening the dvd drive through it's button?

WHat do you mean by resetting the OS? Do you mean reinstalling? No I have not...its seems quite a drastic thing to do doesn't it?

    RESOLVED:

My machine was on for over a week - no shut down; no hibernation; no sleep etc. However, after I read Deks' suggestion, I did shut the machine down and restarted and the drive bay works again.

I have no idea how and why it happened in the first place (the drive bay not opening) and I have no idea how and why it began working after shutting down and restarting.

I am guessing, therefore, that what Deks suggested above - "have you tried resetting the OS..." - worked where 'resetting' I would take to mean restarting.

    Thanks Deks. Your suggestion helped.
