Just bought this Laptop and have tried twice to make a backup of the original factory default setup. I put the first DVD in and off it goes BUT it says it's going to take over an HOUR to burn the DVD! I let it carry on and after around an hour it asks for the 2nd DVD. This it says is going to take arounf 45 minutes to burn? Let them both finish but when I try to look at the content on the first DVD, my main PC says it's a blank DVD?

Have I missed something obvious? Is this normal or do I have a problem?

Ya you have some sort of problem. Mine only took a few minutes to complete and when you check the dvd you can see there is something on it. Can't remember what exactaly. Have you tried to reboot and then turn off all open programs form the task bar and try again to see if it helps. If not try to uninstall e-recovery and re install it. Have you tried to do an app and driver backup to see if you can do that. You could also try to restore you computer by rebooting it and at the post screen pressing alt and f8 and restore you comp that way and trying again.

Interesting - my 5920 also presented problems, but reinstalling eRecovery (just download it again from the EU Acer site after uninstalling your copy) seemed to do the trick. Of course, I had removed my D partition in favour of a larger C drive, and my HD/DVDRW drive took the letter D, so it was put itself in an endless loop trying to figure out how to store data to drive D while backing it up and burning it - to the same drive!

Right now my laptop's in for repair, but if you haven't solved your problem by the time it gets back I'll be happy to try assisting you again.

    Main points:

    - Uninstall Acer eRecovery
    - Install latest from Acer EU site
    - Make sure you have a drive D (that's not optical!!) and sufficient memory
    - Go :)

    Keep us updated!

Thought there was a problem as my daughter's SONY only took a few minutes to create the rescue disks! Will check the DVD writer itself tonight
and make sure it can actually write something to a DVD!

What brand of DVDs are you using?

some drives (acer uses cheaper ones) have trouble burning to cheaper disks..

i stick with SONY since i've never had a bad DVD using them...

Something very odd here! I tried using cheap DVD's to backup the OS and it failed so I've done it using TDK disks and that worked fine. I have since used those cheap DVD's to burn some data using the NTI software and it worked just fine! What's the difference between the 2 software apps?
