    Hello,

I bought the 5920 about a week ago. Today I noticed the screen was flashing, so I rebooted. When it came back up it booted Windows XP into Acer Arcade. If I try to exit it goes into hibernation mode.

Through Google and this forum I understand that this is a feature. You can start it by hitting the dead man icon on the side.

How can I stop this from loading and go back to loading Vista? I've tried coming back from hibernation and hitting F8. I've tried hitting the dead man icon. I've pretty much tried everything I can think of.

How do I get out of this Acer Arcade mode?

    Thanks!

don't own this model... don't have any acer BLOATWARE loaded.. so i'm just offering some of my common sense actions that might help out!!!

tried the 3 finger salute?? ctrl alt del

    bring up task manager

    end the acer arcade process
if you are not sure which it is then just start killing processes
or run explorer.exe from task manager and see if it over rides the arcade program...

    good luck,
    bigO

    Thank you for the answer.

I did try that, but I believe this is a special embedded version of XP. ALT CTRL DLT doesn't work. The laptop normally runs Vista, but for some reason it keeps booting into Acer Arcade. I can't stop this cycle of booting into Acer Arcade, exiting, hibernating and doing it all over again.

I tried the ALT F10 restore from the protected partition. It runs through the process, but then it reboots into that darn Acer Arcade again.

In the acer arcade program when I select an option like HELP or SETTINGS the screen for that option loads and then goes right back to the main menu. When I try to play a DVD it plays in the lower right corner. When I make it full screen it goes right back to the lower right cornerr.

    Again, thanks for the help.

have you tried F5 or F8 at beginning of boot to go to SAFE MODE or LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIG,,, or any of the options displayed by that boot screen??

just another stab in the dark??

Yep. I don't think that has anything to do it with it, though.

For some reason, some how, it's stuck on the partition that runs the darn Acer Arcade. It's in some kind of loop. lol

I bought it at Sams, so if I cannot figure it out/hear from Acer by tomorrow I'll return it and go with a Compaq.

Thanks again for rattling the brain on this one.

you may want to try the D2D quick restore,,,

hold alt and press F10 while the ACER screen shows the press F2 to enter setup message...

this will start a procedure of restoring the HDD to Factory New condition,, just another thing to try before returning the machine

you will loose all data put on machine since getting it,,, but might be easier than returning the laptop.....

    later,

Bigo ... another good suggestion, but another dead end.

One would think the D2D would make it "factory fresh", but it doesn't. I did it multiple times and each time it finished and rebooted I'd be back at the Acer Arcade. lol

Sorry. I ended up taking the laptop back to Sams and getting an HP.

I believe the way to kick yourself back into Vista is to hold down the power button if you get stuck in Arcade, which forces it to shut down instead of hibernate.
Then boot up the system using the power button again, and it should be fine.

The Arcade Instant-On is less of a feature and more of a nuisance.
Glad to hear you're happy with the HP.
