The only reason im considering to get this is because its cheap. Rather then spending 1900 for the 2.0ghz model.

My question is, is this cpu powerful enough to do the following? Render MP3 Files, Convert avi/wmv to dvd, intense multi task (itunes, aim, sony vegas, divx, nero all running at once), opening up program.

All i am concerned is the speed. Right now i use a p4 1.8ghz, and its slow as hell. I know its a dual core, but its still clocked at 1.5ghz, and i dont want to to be a laggy laptop.

It will be around the speed of two 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 CPUs.

Please don't get me started on the soap box about lower clock speeds and "lag". The faster the CPU is does NOT guarantee the faster it will go. What is really critical is the number of calculations it does per cycle!

This is why my 2.6ghz AMD Athlon 64 kicks the living s*it outta a Pentium 4 3.2ghz. The SPEED of the clock is not as important as the CYCLES it does per clock.

'It will be around the speed of two 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 CPUs."

Does that mean a t7500 is the speed of two 3.6ghz oc to 4.4 Ghz processors?

It's all very rough... But perhaps.

The bottom line is that 1.5 GHz processor should be powerful enough for you.

I just wanted to know the difference in performance between the T5250 1.5ghz and the t7300 2.0ghz. If there as a big difference ie .5ghz clock and 4mb l2 cache, i would rather get a Asus F3 because it has that processor.

You can compare the PCMark scores. There is enough reviews at this site for that purpose.
