Ok before I start, the problem I'm going to describe is pretty similar to the one is this topic:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=110601
I got a Cardo S-2 Stereo Headset and I paired it succesfully. The Aspire 5920 has a Broadcom 2045 Bluetooth 2.0 EDR module btw.
The installed bluetooth driver (by vista) is 5.1.2535. This is also the latest version available from the Acer site.
When I connect my headset to the notebook it tells me the Bluetooth Stereo Audio service on CARDO S2 is CONNECTED. But as soon as I start playing music it plays for about 2 seconds, stops for 10, plays another 2, stops, etc.
This problem does NOT occur on my other XP system with a Asus dongle and drivers 5.0.1. Oh well, it normally doesn't. Exactly the same occurs when I listen to music and, at the same time, look for devices in the area (so that the dongle is doing multiple things at a time, causing limited connectivity with the headset, right?).
The thing is, I CAN get the headset to work on the Acer but I have to do the following:
First, connect to the bluetooth handsfree service on the CARDO
Set default sound device to handsfree on CARDO
Play music (I hear some very low quality audio through the headset, due to the service)
While it is playing, connect to bluetooth stereo audio on CARDO
Set default sound device to stereo audio on CARDO
Restart the music player.
I'm trying to downgrade the drivers on the Acer to 5.0.1, but Vista doesn't allow downgrading. And as soon as I uninstall the drivers it starts reinstalling them (even when I DISABLE auto-driver install in the device manager).
I also prefer the XP bluetooth menu with a lot more functions than the Vista one, like rightclicking on the icon in the tray and select the device you want to connect to (or is this just a feature supplied by Asus?).
So if anyone knows how to succesfully downgrade, I would like to try that. Any other solution is welcome as well.

Hmmm... why don't you just install the 5.0.1 driver over the other one?
-
Cos when I try to install them, the setup closes with a message saying something like "Setup can not continue since a newer version of the bluetooth driver has been installed"

Is there an INF file? If so, you can install the driver through device manager.

Hi,
I have the exact same Probklem with a Philips Bluetooth Headset on the Travelmate 6291 with Vista. Any progress on a solution here ? Using the low quality mode works for me to, but the stereo doesnt without long blackouts..
Thanks for any feedback.

Nah there aint.
A lot of people have this problem. Tt has to do with the fact that Vista has a whole new audio system, and Vista also DOES NOT natively support A2DP.
That's not all.. I also found out the range is very bad on Vista compared to XP. It looks like the dongle is doing other things while it's also sending music, cos I get the exact same (bad) performance on XP when I try to listen to music, and send files around over bluetooth at the same time.
I tryed disabling the Bluetooth Enumerator but it didn't help. I hoped SP1 might fix it but that hope was shattered as well.
The bluetooth stack on Vista is crap anyway, I don't like the menu.. too few options and information.. can't even find the 'connect'. The XP one was much better. But like usual.. that stack doesnt work on Vista. -
I have installed the driverupdate directly from the broadcom site, which works fine and is at version 6.2.6000.1

Got same driver, doesnt work.
You also using a wireless headset ? -
try this:
1. connect your stereo headset, both stereo and headset feature.
2. open "sound control panel".
3. set your default playback device as bluetooth stereo.
4. run your music program (WMP, vlc) and play the music or the video.
5. you'll get a choppy sound, it's ok.
6. get back to "sound control panel".
7. while the music or video is playing, right-click the "bluetooth hands-free audio" and click "test".
8. voila! this method is work for me... at least twice...
don't know if this works with broadcom + MS stack, but this is what I've done to my 5920 bluetooth:
- I tried the "UnCrippling Bluetooth in Vista RTM", it doesn't get my bluetooth stereo works.
- after that, I uninstalled the WIDCOMM driver from that tutorial.
- then, I installed WIDCOMM from dell, R161378.exe -> http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R161378.exe
- with that WIDCOMM driver and stack from dell and my "try this" method, I got my bluetooth stereo works twice, I hope I can get it work forever.
edit:
I think my method is not working, since my stereo headset only work good for 1 minute and then back to shuttering sound...
