    Hi All,

Finally got my 5920G today! my first laptop.

So I'm installing AVG, Spybot, Ad-Aware etc when I take a look at how many processes are running - sweet jebus - 75!!!!

Is this normal? I mean, on my gaming desktop running XP home my processes are about 40 ( this laptop came with Vista home premium SP1 ).

I'm pretty sure I can start wielding the axe and uninstall a lot of the acer software - I read on here last week someone saying all you reall need is acer launch manager?

This laptop is second hand by the way, bought from ebay.

Tempted to ditch Vista already - it's looks very pretty but hey, I know performance is better with trusty, reliable XP. Is it difficult getting all the drivers for XP for the 5920G?

Cheers for reading, all tips and suggestions gratefully received!

You don't need any of the acer software. At least im doing fine without it. I only have 45 processes running on windows vista ultimate. including firefox, wmp, and last.fm.

I'm running a 5920 with Vista Home Premium - but not the origianl Acer version, a full retail version. Including Sidebar, AVAST, Weather Watcher and EPIM and Opera I have 23 processes running. Moving from Acer Vista to Retail Vista also saved me 12% of RAM (250kb) and my laptop is much faster. I have used only two Acer drivers (i)Crystal Eye Vista SP1 driver and (ii) Acer Synaptics Touchpad. The former was needed to make the webcam work and the latter made the touchpad more controllable.

You don't need acer softwares. Uninstall everything except acer drivers.

    The axe has been wielded!

All Acer software ( apart from webcam ) has been uninstalled.
I have been through several tweak guides for Vista and disabled lots of start up programs and some services.

I'm now down to 45 processes. I'm pretty sure there is more to go yet, but the system feels quicker. Vista is still using 800+mb of ram when doing nothing, so I think it's time to swap out the 2gb of ram for 4gb.

    Cheers all!

Keep in mind that if you're using Vista x32 it won't really benefit you to have 4Gb RAM, as it will only recognize 3!

3gb with nearly 1gb being used is better than 2gb with nearly 1gb being used though....
