    Hi,

I now have write cache enabled for my HDD. Does this benefit me?

I think it was enabled around the time I updated the AHCI controller in device manager with the file from intel_inf_9.0.0.1008. This is the reason (perhaps) that ReadyDrive won't enable in the ITM console - ReadyBoost is ok.

Anyhow, is the write cache a feature that is worth keeping? I can't say I have noticed any major differences, but who knows, eh?

i've only ever used it on my home server.

to worried about losing data on my laptop.as it can cause blue screen and show hdd problems if you have to shut down when laptop freezes or you have a lose of power.
but thats just me being picky :D

If your write chaching is enabled, your AHCI has kicked out and your system is running in ATA mode....I believe.

AHCI enabled automatically means that the Intel Matrtix Storage Manager is controlling write caching and blocks them out.

I'm pretty sure that the HDD wasn't running in ATA, as the Intel Matrix Storage control indicated that all hdd were ok.

I found the latest ITM drivers on station drivers and installed them:

    http://www.station-drivers.com/tele...emory_1.6.0.1034(www.station-drivers.com).exe

This has reinstalled the ReadyDrive functionality (as indicated in the ITM console). The HDD in Device Manager still has the cache mode enabled.

Do you think that tere could be any conflicts now?

I was weary of Write caching on my desktop due to frequent unplanned power outages with our supply utility.

However, with a lappie running XP now, I leave it permanently on and have had zero issues and have a very quick, responsive HDD and no BSOD or forced shutdowns.

    Can't speak for Vista though.....

    Cheers,
    Theo

had a quick google and found this forum posting:

    http://www.abxzone.com/forums/f41/intel-matrix-storage-manager-7-8-a-111241-2.html

The last poster installed the drivers which I had installed and had the AHCI/Write cache combination as well.

I'll keep it as is as I certainly have no BSOD or forced shutdown problems with it (or prior, actually). If I have discover anything I'll certainly post it here.

    Cheers
