I do believe this is relatively big news...

OK, I admit that one should take this with a grain of salt but still, the fact remains that an upgrade path now exists for the previously-tricky 5920G, and possibly for ALL Acer MXM models!

That is so GREAT NEWS
It looks pretty valid to me. It is a turkish website. Of course, the question is: where can we find that card? (In a couple of weeks in ebay perhaps)
They got the card from another laptop, they just put it in 5920G, installed the ATI drivers and that's it.
It doesn't give us much info about the card though (what type of memory it has and the clocks etc). The only thing we know is 667MHz (core??) overclocked to 800MHz and has 1GB memory (no mention of DDR type, I guess is DDR2)
We know that the problem 5920G has with the 9600M GT DDR3 is probably mainly because of the BIOS and sadly ACER doesn't or couldn't deal with it
According to notebookcheck the HD Mobility 4650 DDR2 is on par with the 9600M GT DDR3 in 3DMark06. The DDR3 version is much better than the nvidia about 800-1200 points more at 1280x800. So that makes it the best MXM II card around I guess. I think the ATI will show a pretty good range of mobility cards in the MXM II category this year. -
Hunted it down - it's from an Aspire 6930G model sold in Europe. Looks like it's the 1GB DDR2 model as well.
GPU-Z pic from same topic:
-
I knew it! Forget nVIDIA, ATi - the upgrader's only choice
Now I'm waiting to pop-up in the eBay
Any info about the temps? I did copper mod on mine and now it stays at 80 ( overclocked) with my Notepal at 3rd gear
-
None - but considering it's on the 55 nm process, it'll run a LOT cooler than our 80 nm 8600M GT/9500M GS.
-
That is what I'm worried about. Mobility HD3650 (currently running in my lappy) is based on the same process and it has 30 watt consumption. Mobility HD4650 has 35 - for me it equals to more heat. My 3650 without the copper mod and without the cooler runs at good 110 degrees (clocked of course)
Rep addedForgot first time - SOOOOOOO EXCITED
Someone knows the model number of this:
-
Actually, according to Notebookcheck:
-
Nice... and the most important - IT RUNS ON 5920G
Now I'm waiting to get in stock in my local super
BTW: Why in the "current consumption" column (notebookcheck) there is that 35 watt statement? -
No clue, triturbo.
Now...we wait for the Radeon HD 4650 MXM-II cards to trickle out.
Heck, maybe even the HD 4670 will be available in MXM-II size! (it's listed for the new Aspire 8935, so it could be MXM-III or MXM-B) -
I think that it is just a higher clocked 4650 with DDR3, like HD3650/HD3670
So it should be MXM-II, means - me want... C'mon eBay
-
OMG OMG I would like to upgrade mine too with that
.
Come on EBAY please, my monster wants to meet the HD4670 -
This is great
Means I can upgrade mine as well
However I pulled more marks with my system on stock @ 1280x800:
However my point wasn't to brag
Just that this is great, and means we MIGHt even be able to fit the great 4670 in here, but how did he get the BIOS to recognize the card
Fingers crossed for future upgrades -
Maybe because it's ATi
Or because HD4xxx was released well after the last BIOS update
Your 9600M is awesome mid-range VGA, too bad that it doesn't runs on 5920G
Anyway, don't forget that this is the DDR2 version, this card should go a little bit higher with DDR3, beating your 9600M
-
Mine is DDR3 as well
I still think this is awesome
Now if only there was a was to overclock the processor as well -
Wow this is great news. Now lets just wait till they appear on Ebay and if the price is right and the performance gain is noticable i might get one
Hopefully there will be DDR3 variants as well.
-
Yeah, wonder where that guy got one..................
-
Why the hell is the 3dmarks score so weak at 1280*800 ???? 5180 ???? it's a ddr2 4650 or what ??? My 9600M GT scores 5660 without OC....
But if it really fits our Acers, it could be a great news...even if a 4670 DDR3 would be waaayyy better and worth it -
@RaYYaN - From a friend.
@Kallogan - It's DDR2 version -
And again, if the Radeon HD 4670 1GB GDDR3 in the Aspire 8935 is MXM-II (and not MXM-B), we could just upgrade that for massive damage.
-
how good is the 4570 gddr3 compared to a 9600M GT ddr3????
-
The HD 4570? That is far inferior to the 9600M GT. I hope TehSuigi means HD 4670, because that would easily wipe the floor with the 9600M GT. The HD 4670 beats the 9650M GT and the 9700M GT as well!

-
I meant REAL-GAME performance
Those are just random number to me -
-
Wooooho any other updates on this?
-
I found this: http://www.ec21.com/offer_detail/Sell_ATI_HD_4650_M96--8033188.html
It doesn't looks like eBay though -
I'm holding off on that, thanks. If it looks too good to be true... -
Since you mentioned it, why he sells an ES SLAYX? As far as I know SLAYX is the retail version of the T9500, or I'm wrong. Still for now this is the only option if you want a 4650
I already had upgraded my GPU, waiting my HDD, so in order to upgrade the GPU again, I have to upgrade the CPU first and then I'll consider whether to buy a new GPU or not (money, they are always a bit short)
-
Wooohooo cant wait to order one!!
-
As soon as I get a CPU, same would go for me
BTW I had asked him why he doesn't sell 4650s through eBay, but he didn't respond -
I've finally reached him, but I have bad news - no HD4650s in stock, only HD3650
I guess he wants to sell all of his HD3650s and then HD4650 will hit eBay
-
It'd also be nice if some GT 130Ms on the MXM-II format got out... -
if someone wants an ati mobility 4650/4850 gddr3 look this

-
Yeah, I owned 2 laptops with nvidia graphics before, and as far I can tell I had MANY problems with overheating, shutdowns...
I decided not to take more headaches and I went with ATI, which is very powerful, I dont get more than 70C at full load, its like a miracle, I can run COD W@W at max settings.
But this new card : 4650 is way more powerful than the 3650, I really cant wait to order one. -
Too bad ATI still has worse support for notebook drivers than nVidia...
-
MAN, please show up on EBAY soon!
What do people think about buying engineering sample cards? Are they safe? I hear sometime that pipelines or stream processors can be disabled... -
Chris -
Or those ones: http://www.donotargue.com/list.php?c=dnaati
-
Nice! Didn't know that. Thanks for the link!
-
Any idea if its safe to order ES hd4650's from that ebay guy? Are they fully funtional?
-
Sadly there are no HD4650s in stock
-
but if there were?
-
I know about ES CPUs, but I do know nothing about ES GPUs. Are there any? As far as I know most of the GPUs on eBay are either pulled directly from a laptop or pulled directly from the manufacturing facility
-
Ocstore or whatever is name is on ebay, is notorious for selling ES GPUs. I am aware that he actually owns some ES 4650's, but is holding on to them for now. A while back I came very close to buying a ES 9600m GT from him, but found out it had less than the normal amount of pipelines, and hense much less power.
-
Thanks, nice to know that one
-
Bump - look what I found.
ATi Radeon HD 4650 MXM-II 1GB DDR2 - $262 before S&H and taxes.
And I do believe this here is the Radeon HD 4670 MXM-B 1GB GDDR3. That's right - MXM-B; MXM-II/III/IV is limited to 800 MHz VRAM, and this thing's got 900 MHZ as its stock clock. -
AWESOME! But why are you so sure that it is MXM 3 Type B? Now I have to run all over the internet to see what MXM type is used in 8935G. I'm still thinking that it is MXM 2.1 Type II. I'm thinking this way, because Acer makes everything possible to cut the expenses to minimum. Thanks God that Acer is cheap brand
.
-
And since the Radeon HD 4670's product page shows a 900 MHz memory clock, well...it makes sense.
Plus, considering that the Aspire 8935G is a new design and not based on the 8930, it's possible that they've started the transition to MXM 3.0.
Also - the Nvidia driver Acer supplies for the 8935G has the GT 130M and GTX 280M in its INF. One could safely assume that those are MXM-B as well.
5920G Upgraded To...Radeon HD 4650?!
