I thought I had it figured it out but I need your help guys. Please!
I have this ongoing issue with distorted audio every minute or so audio would have some sort of interference or "hiccup" during music/video playback. I use latest R1.74 HD drivers and Klite Codec pack with all default settings. I also installed Vista SP1, but I had that issue in non SP as well. So, can you please tell me what could be an issue here?
Here is a sample that better explains the issue:

If you're referring to Realtek drivers the latest version is 1.86. Try them
Grand Admiral -
yeah, I meant to say 1.86
the issue seems to happen after installing Cyberlink PowerDirector 6. I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling audio drivers, also tried uninstalling klite codec pack without any success. I will do another clean windows install and not install PowerDirector 6 this time. -
klas, have you had the issue since you bought your notebook or just now?
I have the sam issue on my 7720G, and i am sure that it is in no way Cyberlink PowerDirector 6 related. I tryed installing xp, then installing or the right xp files but the problem persists.
I´ve tryed everything possible you could think of, new and old realtek drivers, realtek drivers from acer.com site. I tryed also uninstalling Microsoft HD Audio Bus Driver, no help. Even 2 times format and new system installation did not help. Flashing bios to v1.25 also did realy nothing. Only partial sollution was installing Acer empowering technology with all the performance and power settings set to max. Also you should try setting your mic to minimum, maybe that help´s a little. But even then, sometimes the problem comes back. Lately even my dreams are sound distorted...I heard some bios updates should help solving the issue, but the latest for my 7720G did not do the trick.
Please, if you have any sollution to this, let me know...

I started to have that issue recently, so I don't know if it's drivers, or bios or whatever. I just performed another clean installation and issue persist.
I recorded this video/music where you can hear that distortation I am talking about... Is this the same on yours?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aTCO2nqASg -
yep, the same thing. Nice music btw.
I did not notice any performance issues on youtube thou... ´Couse on my laptop each time the souds popps stutters evereything... extremley annoying in games. I guess the problem persists on non oem os. That it´ll only work on vista given by Acer... and also i know there is nothing wrong with the speakers, ´couse i tryed plugin in speakers or headphone´s and the problerm persists.
Maybe you should try uninstalling Microsoft High Definition Audio Bus, then windows will find realtek and modem drivers again and installe them, also it´ll find Microsoft HD Audio Bus but you should´nt allow them to install.
It looks like it helps a little but im not even sure so...
Dont realy know what to do... ill try recording my issue later today. -
I don't think it has anything to do with clean Vista install, because I've installed my own Vista from the first day and it was fine, until about 2 month ago. I might have to ship the notebook to service department. I'll try to get them to listen to youtube video and see what they say.

Just check my serial and it says that it needs to be taken to BestBuy for repair.

Same problem here - but it happens very rarely so it's not annoying at all - more I'm concerned about is my left speaker which is very distorted when I turn the volume up to max. All in all 5920g is quite good laptop for its price - I would buy it again if I had a chance
Anyway - could you tell me what is the name of the tune you got there on youtube. Many thanks - and good luck -
i've been using 5920G as a dedicated media center (watching movies, music) so this became a real issue and if they cannot fix it, I will have to look elsewhere. I am trying to figure out the source the issue so I could tell them what to fix.
Not sure about tune, it's some relaxing music I had. -
If you have to ship it, thats bad... have you contacted them? I think the only thing that actualy can be messed up (if hardware related) can be the motherboard. Sound card as hd modem are a part of it if im not guessing wrong?
Let us know how it goes... -
I'll try one more thing tonight which is restore original Acer OS and I don't have to ship it and just take it to BestBuy.
Anyway, I am still kinda upset about it and probably will have order another laptop, Sony FZ... -
Ok, when restored, let us know if the problem persists...
-
i just restored it and I couldn't reproduce the issue any longer. It happened once when Acer restore music was playing and that's it. (although I could be just imagining things) It plays all my demo music now, but I am reluctunt to update the drivers again
-
lol, i didnt make my own recovery dvd
... maybe its just today without popping, give it a while
also it may be Acer empowering that helped, when i install it and do max settings for everything the problem seems to be almost gone... -
Update: I removed all the junk and i upgraded all the drivers and also installed Vista SP1 then watched a full movie and no popping sounds...
-
Hmmm, thats interesting... Whell, i dont have recovery dvd so im outta luck then.
-
we'll see how this works out, I also installed latest klite codec pack and it seems to be fine
-
I´ve read about this issue on some german forums as well. They also did not find any sollution... this seems to happen often on 5920G, 7520G, 7720G all gemstone model´s.
The only sollution is complete recovery to factory settings with recovery dvd it seems. Everything still fine there klas? -
so far fine, but I only watched a few movies...If you find anything let me know. I really want to know what causes this problem if I decided to install my own OS again.
Btw, I just ordered Sony FZ w/ Blu Ray that might replace 5920G. Got a good deal that I couldn't pass. -
For those still having the issue on downgraded xp.
I tryed cleaning the registry with CCleaner and the problem was almost not present, than also uninstalled High Definition Audio Bus Driver v1.0a and installed the older High Definition Audio Function Driver v1.0. That helped me allot, the prob. never appears again, hope this help´s with the distorted sound issue.

Just to get this thread on top again

Interesting, I have a Pavilion dv9700 notebook, realtek HD audio, with distorted sound..and also the left speaker has the worst distortion (sound is same through headphones also). By the way, I sent one back because of this and ordered another one and it has same sound problem right out of the box new also with no added software installed to mess things up. I've updated everything, reinstalled everything, factory restored everything, tech helped everything...no solutions!!!! I can tell you one thing, if you uninstall the Realtek driver and let the install on reboot complete with the Vista driver, the distortion is gone, but of course now you have no control over the sound, because there is no mixer of any kind. Clearly a problem with Vista and Realtek drivers and the newest Realtek driver did not fix this. I can't believe HP is shipping these like this.

Hi there Guys.
I have had a few probs myself with audio issues with my Aspire 7720G.
Sometimes i lost sound completely, although video would continue.
However, one new mainboard and failed bios attempts later, the V1.34 bios for this laptop appears to have sorted the sound issue.
I still get the odd one or 2 "bobbles" in my audio every now and then, but ive had that from all my previous desktops. (Usually to do with another background process interupting the audio codec)
Hope this helps. -
I have the same problem, 5920G.
- This is Nvidia + RealTek Related because my brothers 5920 with an Intel GPU doesn't have this issue
- Installing your video driver last will greatly improve the distortion
- Disabling Dolby Surround will improve the distortion
I have a question, does everyone with this problem own a 8600M GS? -
OK found the root cause of this problem, CPU overheating my CPU was reaching close to 90c, causing it to throttle waaay down, and lag which makes the RealTek IC distort.
5920G distorted audio issue! Help!
