    hey all:

I would like to connect my acer 5920G to an Onkyo 705 amp which drives my 5 speakers and outputs to a subwoofer & hdtv.

I havent actually tried this yet since i'm waiting for another hdmi cable to arrive in the post. but

the picture will get sent via hdmi thru the amp and out to my TV?

also the sound quality via hdmi. I think the 5920 has intel hd audio? how does that work.. does it output 5.1 signals via hdmi? a friend suggested i buy an external or pci sound card to up the signal quality as he says even though i'm outputing via hdmi, the signal is still shunted through the stock audio circuitry. i have a very good amp & speakers so i want quality output.

lastly maybe a kind of silly question, what is S/PDIF? it it just a line out where I can just use line to RCA cable? or is it something else. Again, is the quality good? I notice when i plug my headphones in there is a LOT of hiss and computer noise.

    thanks

I have an Onkyo 605 and like yours it rocks lol.

Either use hdmi to carry both audio and video, not sure yet if its digital audio but working on it.

One definate way of getting digi audio is to get one of these and use it on the end of an optical cable and plug it straight into your headphone socket on your 5920g. Top audio them my friend....

Use hdmi for hd video (prob sound also but not sure)
