or at least there is a model, the 5920-6574, available at NCIX.com with the T8100 listed for the CPU. now all we gotta do is find out what BIOS it's running and then see if it's compatible with our older 5920G's!!! :D

excitement, excitement, oh the excitement!!!

edit - fascinating, doing a search, I cannot pull up that unit...wonder how they found it. the SKU is a valid sku (it's not a supplier sku, being it's numerical readout I know it's an NCIX sku) so I'm not sure what's going on there...

The Bios is 3805, it's the same as published on this forum and it also available on ACER drivers site. (5. WA provide by Intel.(false thermtrip for Penryn cpu))
thermtrip - it's info that provides the hardware to shut down the PLL if temp is too high. So this bios has info about new CPU (Penryn).

So, 3805 BIOS works for the Penryn's. Does anyone know if the processors are available anywhere in Canada, I can't find them on the NCIX website...

I was about to buy this one, but then I priced refurb xps which was about the same price with better specs, not to mention nicer design... so i pulled the trigger on xps. I would assume there is not much difference between T7500 2.2Ghz 4MB vs T8100 2.1Ghz 3MB

T7XXX made by old 65nm technology & new T8XXX & T9XXX made by 45nm technology .New processors save power + they are more powerful than old ones.

I have the same model 5920g model# 5920-6574, it was advertised, even on the box as having the Penryn PM965 chipset, but the chipset utility from Intel shows it as the GM965, is that right?
I did update my bios to the 3811 as it was shown to be the latest bios on the Acer euro website, Should it have been a different one? If so which one should i have?
I have since had to send the laptop in as the backlight stopped working, and should be getting it back in a day or two. I didn't think about it at the time, but could this have been related?

The intel chipset utility is simply rubbish.. :D
Download CPUz and PC Wizard 2008 from www.cpuid.com....and then check the chipset..!!
Does your laptop have discrete graphics..!! It should have since it ends with a G.. :D

I checked it with CPUz as well and it was the same. Could i have changed it when i installed the 3811 bios? I'm not sure about the discrete graphics. I have the 8600GT card with 512 dedicated, and 768 shared.

Ok, thanks for your help. I am fairly new at this. So do you think i actually have the GM965 and the advertising is wrong?
