    Hi everyone.

I was using my 5920 yesterday and when i closed the lid as it was shutting down there was a loud high pitched feedback type noise from the speakers. I opened it up again and the noise stopped and the laptop continued to shutdown. I then closed the lid again and all was fine.

However, on starting up again I found that the screen resolution had changed to the lowest setting, so that all the icons were double size etc. Weird eh?

Anyway I changed the resolution back to normal no problems, but whenever i close the lid while the machine is running i get the same high pitch squeal and the resolution changes, and once the screen came back too dark to see anything so i had to do a restart.

Now the long and the short of it is this: I've figured out by trial and error that it's the two small mic holes by the lid catches that are causing the feedback, and it only happens when the volume on the laptop is set at about 50% or above. So, i can stop it happening just by ensuring the volume is set to a low level on the wheel just under the touchpad. I've tried changing the "what happens when you close the lid" options in the control panel and also even tried changing the sound options, just in case it was the dolby causing the feedback problems but no joy. I've got a basic knowledge of what happens when you put a mic too close to a speaker, ie. you get feedback, but i'm wondering why it's affecting the display settings and if anyone else is experiencing this?

I'd be very grateful if anyone could shed some light on this strange problem or perhaps put forth some ideas. I've come here first because i don't particularly want to fanny around sending it back to acer unless i absolutley have to.

Also does anyone know how to keep the screen brightness setting constant because mine sometime changes back about 20 mins after i adjust it. Well sometimes it does, sometimes it doesen't.

Thanks for your help in anticipation, Steve.

cheers for the reply mate. not quite sure how to reset them though. have looked in control panel and while i can see the speaker options, "set to default" isn't illuminating so i can't click on it. is that what you meant?

Also, since i first posted i've tried switching off the mike in the "recording devices" tab but a) i still get the problem and b) although it says the mic is now disabled, if blow into it, i can still hear it amplified through the speakers, so it doesen't look like it's turned off at all.

I did do a search before i posted by the way but while wkfu seems to have the same problem, there wasn't really a solution in there.

    I had this problem too,
To fix it go to control panel, then sound, after go to the playback tab (SHOULD BE FIRST ONE ANYWAY) finaly go to speakers and click properties.
Then go to the levels tab and make sure your mic is either turned down or muted.
