    Hello guys,
So I have an Acer 5920g and I recently purchased a 9500m GS to replace the broken 8600mGT.
Based from the help from .NetRolller 3D , I was told I need to flash his modified bios from this thread.

My problem now is how do I do a blind flash on the 5920g(phoenix bios)

I did search around but couldn't find one specific for 5920g.
If anyone can give me the detailed instructions or point me to a tutorial, it would be much appreciated.

And I promise to give you a free cyber beer :p

Do you have any other MXM machine?

I don't have another one unfortunately. Is it required?

No, but it would have made things easier.

Remove the MXM card from the machine.
    Download WinCris 1.0.0.4.
Download the patched BIOS, rename it to BIOS.WPH, and put it in the directory of WinCris.
Use WinCris to create an USB crisis recovery disk. (There is no crisis to recover in this case, but a crisis disk can also be used for regular flasing.)
Shut down the machine, remove the battery and unplug the AC.
Plug in the crisis USB disk.
Press and hold Fn+Esc. Plug in the AC adapter.
Still holding Fn+Esc, press the Power button. Release Fn+Esc.

When the laptop shuts down, reinstall the MXM card, and you should be good to go.

Hi, so I just followed the instructions.
But after the last step the laptop doesn't shut down and it has been more than 20 minutes.
The power button keeps blinking and the screen is lit(but black).

Not sure if it is relevant, After using winCris, 3 files appeared on the drive.( phlash16.exe, minidos.sys and Bios.wph)
also the usb drive I used is an 8GB fat32 drive.

That is exactly what should happen. Well, except for the whole not shutting down part.

Do you have a USB floppy drive? If so, try using a floppy instead of a flash drive.

Or, if you have a soldering iron, try moving the VBIOS chip from the 8600M GT to the 9500M GS (the 9500M is just an overclocked 8600M GT, and is not a true GeForce 9 card, so it should work). Then, install the patched BIOS, and flash the card back to 9500M GS for full-speed operation.

I don't have a usb floppy but I could buy one.
But just to be sure, the usb floppy has a better rate of success than the usb drive then?

You don't need to buy one; but having one beforehand would have made things easier, again.

So; you will need to format a flash drive as bootable, using the HP USB format tool. Then, copy Phlash16.exe and your BIOS (as BIOS.WPH) from the crisis package to the drive.
Create a text file named "autoexec.bat" on the drive (make sure that it really gets named "autoexec.bat" and nout "autoexec.bat.txt" or "autoexec.txt" - Windows loves to mess up extensions this way), and put into it the following line:
    Code:
    phlash16 /p /x bios.wph

When done, remove the HDD and MXM card from the machine, and try booting from the drive. When the machine reboots, you are ready. Reinstall the MXM card and HDD.

    Heyy,
So it has been a while since I checked this thread. Basically because I gave up at that time since it wasn't flashing the bios.

But a few days ago someone had a 8600m gt which was partially broken, meaning it won't display anything on the screen but it would boot and get into windows fine.
So what I did was put it in the acer laptop and then get in windows and flashed netroller's bios from there. I enabled narrator to help me navigate since I couldn't see anything. And Voila it works fine now.
Dunno why the flash drive and even a floppy drive didn't work for me.

Anyways thanks a lot for your help netrolller.

    Cheers

And to answer pbd question ,yes the 8600m gt died.
I revived it a few times before by using the "oven trick", but after the 6th time it didn't come back to life :D

Knock on wood, mine is still going strong ... not that I really care if it died, but I just get a kick out of making a 5 year old laptop hum. Just bought an inexpensive SSD for it, put Windows 7 64 bit with 4 gb of ram, and it's flying once again now.
