Oh man I must have screwed this up big time. Basically I thought I hibernated or maybe something triggered it back on... i don't know! But my laptop has been sitting inside a drawer while it was running! And I don't remember when the last time I used my laptop and stuck it in there! I opened it up and I saw was BSOD!!!

So I just turned it off and turned it back on. Nothing posts on the screen and the hard drive light will blink for a second and then stop. Sometimes the fan will just turn off and it will constantly reboot itself. When that happens it only stays on for a few seconds but nothing shows up on the montior.

Man I think I screwed it up. I opened it up and I don't see any physical damage. I even took the heat sinks off and the chips look normal. I don't know what to do now. I have already tried running without a hard drive, only 1 ram stick in either slot. Nothing.

    Help please!!! T_T

    1. Is your drawer full of evil little imps that chew away your laptop guts?
    2. What else was in the drawer?
    3. How long was it in the drawer?
    4. Why would a laptop break inside a drawer?
    5. If there is only problem with the monitor then send to manufacturer(but seen you saw the BSOD, then there shouldn't be problem with the monitor)
    6. How about the fans? do they move when you turn on the laptop?
    7. can you get to the safe mode options or the BIOS screen?
    8. have you tried booting other than harddrive?

    1. If only it was that easy :p
    2. Nothing really, it was sitting on a laptop cooler (fans were still running) on top of a lapdesk. Um, my mouse was in there, and a card reader.
    3. Dunno a couple of days i think
    4. I think the heat would be the issue. It just stayed on and never thermal shutdown. It's plug in to ac, not battery. So it just stayed on.
    5. Yes last thing I saw was BSOD, turned it off and monitor never turned back on.
    6. Uh fan activity varies, it kinda runs for a couple of seconds and then it stops. It might reboot or just stay on. Every light stays on except for the hard drive light/caps lock/scroll lock. It reads the hard drive a bit but then everthing stops.
    7. Nope nothing shows up on the screen anymore. Doesn't even post.
    8. Can't get that far

    OMG I feel so retarded.

Basically the reason why everything is so screwed up is because of one ram stick. Its !@#$ed up. So when I discoved that wasn't working, I eventually figured out why the monitor didn't work...

... I didn't push the GPU card all the way in... *smacks head*...

Oh well my laptop is running again and I don't have to buy a new one!

And since I uped my ram from 2gb to 4gb, I only need to rma the ram and not the entire laptop.

Don't mind me asking...but how did it end up in a drawer with it's cooler running and then forgotten about after doing a RAM upgrade and fiddling with the GPU

Emergency rush job for whatever reason   :D

    Wanna share with us?

    Nonono...

Guess I must have worded it wrong.

There are drawers under my bed and normally that is where i stick it in (not much space to put things) so i thought i had told to to hibernate and stuck it in the draw with the power cable still attached. And it still sitting on a laptop cooler which plugs into the USB.

Like a week later, i pulled it out of the drawer and found out it was still running. Saw a BSOD. Turned it off, didn't turn back on.

So I disassembled it and tried to figure out what was broken. In that whole process, the GPU wasn't pushed in all the way into the slot and one of the ram sticks had died.

Does that make more sense? :p
