Guys, i need some info about installing win 7.
I use vista home premium and i decided to go to Win7. Here are some question that i'm confused:
    1. Should i upgrade or make a fresh install? (probably i think it's better a fresh install)
    2.If i make a fresh install i need to format my C:?
3.But will the d2d console work after formatting c: so in case i want to return to Vista i just need to hit ALT+f10 and start the restoring process?

Please, i appreciate any council or idea
    Thanks

    1. Definite fresh install.
    2. Only if you want to. If you have enough space on your C: partition, you can clean install Windows 7 without formatting - the previous Vista installation will be moved to Windows_OLD, as will your Program Files.
    3. Burn your recovery DVDs using Acer eRecovery beforehand just in case it doesn't.

    Thanks for Your reply,
I have ~80GB free on 117GB C: so this is a lot of space for sure...
But why i should leave Windows_Old? Can i use it as dual-boot? (I think better free space than Windows_Old :))
BTW,first i will install win7 and then I can delete from win7 the windows_old files and other old OS files...
Anyway i created the recovery cd from E-recovery software, just in case i need reinstalling Vista.

Sorry for taking all this time but i have the last question:
I was browsing the d2d topics and i cant figure why all the people want to recreate the hidden partition when they already have the recovery cd and from them reinstall windows. When you have the cd as recovery why to need the recovery partition?
Anyway thank you for your help and time :)

You shouldn't leave Windows_Old - the install process just renames the Vista Windows folder so it doesn't have to replace any of it, nor deal with incompatibilities. Feel free to delete it after the installation.

I think those people are largely interested in ensuring that their system could be restored even if the DVD drive somehow was nonresponsive. This is especially true for Acer Aspire Ones which lack an internal DVD drive altogether.

Personally, I elected to ditch the Acer recovery partition eons ago - I keep the installation DVD handy, and a system image backup on an external hard drive.

I'll make the same thing as you did: Dvd recovery and Image on ext. HDD
    Thanks
