    Right ... I got myself 5930G a week ago.
    Works beautifully.
I removed all of the unnecessary programs that Acer put in (they do make decent laptops but really overbload the OS with stupidities) and optimized Vista as much as I could (which is working nicely if i do say so myself ... but I'm still considering on going back to XP SP3 until Windows 7 comes out.).

Right ... I also played Mass Effect for a while on the laptop (maxed out at native res of 1280x800 works without a problem).

Now the only thing is, I'd like to reduce the temperatures of the laptop.
The idle CPU temp is at about 52 degrees, while under load reaches about 72 degrees Celsius (which is pretty good considering the casing).

I will buy myself the ZALMAN ZM-NC2000B cooler ... but what I would also love to do is to undervolt both the CPU and the GPU.

I'm aware the RMClock is not exactly effective when it comes to P7350 cpu.
I tried to undervolt it last night, and as much as I reduced the current going to the multipliers, the temperatures remained the same under stress for prolonged periods of time.

So ... until I find a way to undervolt the cpu and get myself the forementioned cooler, I'd like to undervolt the gpu (9600m GT GDDR3)
If it's possible (and I know it is), I need to know of programs that can be used to acomplish this.

As much as I like my new laptop, it would be nice to further extend it's lifespan (even though it's brand new) and reduce the heat output.

I was also thinking on getting the thermal paste and applying it to cpu/gpu.
Although I'm not sure I want to go ahead with it as I don't want to void the warranty.

P.S. Need on some possible solutions on how to overclock the cpu/gpu in question without significant gains in temps.

I'm bumping this thread as I'm sure there are 5930G users who would love to hear some ideas to decrease temperature emissions and possibly overclock their P7350 cpu's.
    :)

So come on guys (and gals), pool in your ideas.

I think it's normal for 5920G/5930G for having a high temperature.
All the 5930g or 5920g has high GPU and CPU temperature, even in iddle.

I have 5920G, no hardware modding, no OC, and the GPU temperature reach 80-90 in gaming. CPU temp is around 70-80 in full load. Very high, yes.
But I heard that the GPU can handle up to 110 degree. so, most people say that 90 degree is normal.

Anyway, how's the temp now after using Zalman?
    Put the review please :D

    Still didn't receive Zalman.

As for the temps being high 'hyeclass'.
Depends on what you're doing really.
For the moment I'm downloading stuff from the internet over the past several nights and watching something in VLC player.
The temps have gone up from 53 deg/C to 63 ... expected since I'm actually using a program for watching a video.
Hyeclass, make sure your laptop is on a flat surface and not in your lap or on a surface that obstructs the air flow.

I keep my laptop on a flat wood surface which by itself does get warmer over time.
I just increased the laptops legs so there's more room beneath it (air flow) and will get the Zalman most likely by Friday.

But being able to undervolt the cpu/gpu would also be of great help.

wierd i'm just browsing the web and have msn messenger running 75°....
don't know if this is ok... is there anything i could clean? like might something be jamming the airholes or the vent?

    clean your air vent.
70 degree at idle is... high.

    How's ur environment?
    using air conditioner or not?

Use a compressed air can (you can get them at virtually any computer shop).
Make sure you first push out some air from the can (which will get rid of any fluids) before you put it at the laptop vents and use it.
And no, it won't void your warranty (just make sure you do it while the laptop is turned off).
Use the search function on this website for more info on cleaning out the laptop vents with compressed air.

I don't think your warranty would be voided even if you upgraded your RAM and CPU (the only difference though is that if the laptop needs to be repaired by Acer for whatever reason, the new components you put in aren't covered by the warranty ... so it's advised that if something happens, you don't sell your old components and just put them into the laptop if you are sending it for repairs to Acer). :)

If the idle temperature in your laptop is high as you say (70 deg) ... that's pretty odd and high.
    My idle temps:

    cpu idles at 51 deg. C (core 0) and 53 deg C (core1).
gpu idles at 43 deg C
hdd idles at 45 deg C

And that's about 10 mins after playing Bioshock maxed out at 1280x800 (running smooth without hickups of any kind).

    'Hyeclass'
Check your task manager and see just how many processes are running.
I think there's a possibility (if your laptop is new) that you did not remove some of the excess programs that were put in by Acer for example and that your cpu is constantly running something in the background (making the temps go up).

My Vista Home Premium starts up with 43 processes (gonna try to shave it off a bit more).
Also, I turned off hdd indexing and a bunch of other useless things that only put the cpu/hdd through needless stressing while doing virtually nothing.
The first thing I did when I got the laptop was that I removed everyhting that Acer put in (sans the OS), optimized Vista and removed needless processes and services.

If you have not done the same thing, I suggest you do, and if you need more help, don't hesitate to ask.

****... i'm running 99 processes ... :p lol gonna try to remove a lot of stuff...all those acer stuff

but I think i forgot to mention... that is my gpu that's running so hot... not the cpu... I haven't checked the cpu temp....

    Oh ...
My gpu also reaches about 70 deg C ... while gaming.
That's rather standard and I wouldn't worry about it.
But if you are saying your gpu is running that hot while idle ... then something is not right.
There is a possibility the gpu is faulty and overheating (a very small one since the 9600m GT isn't supposedly affected by Nvidia's soldering issue) ... HOWEVER ... there's is also a likelier possibilty that some of those 99 processes you have running are actually using your gpu.
I suspect one of the Acer programs to be the culprit ... or possibly Aero in Windows.

Since you mentioned you have about 99 processes running (I feel this insatiable urge to slap you across the face for allowing that btw :D ), remove ALL Acer programs and games (except for the 'eRecovery management' - for restoring the laptop and OS to factory settings ... and also don't remove 'Acer Crystal Eye Webcam' - for your webcam functionality).
I would also suggest removing both the pre-installed antivirus and Microsoft Office 2007, and simply replace them with Nod32 a/v (or a free AV) and latest Open Office (or if you have it the full Microsoft Office 2007).

Here's a useful thread (on this site) for tweaking Vista:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=166532

And ... this is very useful for removing unnecessary Vista services:
    http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm
my recommendation would be that you use the 'tweaked' option.

Please report back once you have done all that.
    :)

my cpu is running on a normal temp .. :(

The 'tweaked' options worked for me ... however, I have avoided potential services (3 or 4) that might have been related to my Internet connection (it's possible that disabling 'Workstation' killed your net connection).

Have you removed all Acer programs?
If not, I strongly suggest you do so.
Also ... clean up the programs that boot up with Windows (I only have 5 essential ones starting up with Windows) ... it's also possible one of those is clogging your gpu resources.
Type 'run' into the start orb search field. Next type 'msconfig' and go to 'Startup' tab. There you can remove all programs that you don't need.
I suggest removing everything apart from your sound card drivers, antivirus, Windows defender and synaptics pointing device driver (and a program or two you personally use and need at startup).

btw ... which program for temp monitoring are you using?

    I see ...
    What about the laptop itself?
Is it on a flat surface or on an irregular one that might be obstructing the air flow from the lower fans?

I find it hard to think the gpu itself is overheating ... also those temps are usually associated when something is using the gpu intensly ... like games.

    What about games?
After you have played games, how are the temperatures on the gpu?

haven't played a game in a while but when i did it used to get to 85 i think

but i just thought of this... might be just dumb but...
i have a dog.. and it's that time of the year again... maybe his hair got stuck in the vent or something...?

    It's a definite possibility.
As I said, try using a compressed air in a can to clean out the laptop vents.
If that doesn't work, call up Acer and ask them if opening up the laptop to check the vents would void your warranty ... but also tell them you would like to open it up to check the coolers for dirt/hair.
If they say that it could void the warranty, then backup your work on a usb dongle or a dvd and take the laptop to Acer so they can examine it.

As for gaming ... hm ... I think mine went up to 80 deg or something as well, although I'm pretty sure the last time I checked it was up to 78 maybe ... will fire up Bioshock or Mass Effect and play them for 10 to 30 mins or more to give you an accurate reading.
    :)

ok thanks.. hope it solves it but...where do i blow the air into?
i don't think itll void the warrenty cause there is no sticker on it or anything... donno i'll call to make sure...
but if i would open it... how would they know?

If you will be cleaning it out with a compressed air in a can, just press the can to the exhaust vents and let the air flow in.

On a side note I just ran Mass Effect for a while.
My CPU temp. got up to 81 deg C for Core 0 and 85 deg C for Core 1.
GPU temp. got up to 75 deg. C.

Btw, I noticed that when I'm idling for the most part and running uTorrent in the background, my CPU temp is mostly at 51 deg C for Core 0 and 54 deg C for Core 1 ... but has a tendency of shooting up on it's own by 9 degrees on both cores for some reason (same for the gpu which rises to about 50 deg C) even when I'm not running anything (it does return back to it's standard levels within a minute or two and remains like that for the most part).
It's odd ... but it could be that my laptop could use 8 hours of uninterrupted shut-down time given the fact I left it running for the past 5 days/nights (of course I turned off it's monitor, put it into battery conservation mode and all and closed the lid).

Well, respectfully, I turned off the sidebar and gadgets (useless in my opinion and they take up resources needlessly).

Any other potential graphic programs that might be running the gpu?
Could you post a screenshot of your desktop if it's not a problem?

I just took my vacum cleaner and put it to where the air comes out but it didn't really help... but i'm going to try the compressed air tomorro....

    and here's the screenshots
    [IMG] [IMG]

    [IMG] [IMG]

i'm also not running any graphics program except paint for the screenshots ... :(

after the vacume i turned the notebook on and the gpu was 59° now its beet max 10 minutes ago and its 68 :s

EDIT :// I NOW NOTICED THAT AFTER VACUMING THE TEMP IS ONLY 68... INSTEAD OF 75 WICH WAS BEFOR...

MAYBE THE VACUME ISN'T ENOUGH HOPE THE COMPRESSED AIR WILL HELP MORE TOMORROW

There is a pretty good possibility that the compressed air will further help in decreasing the temps.
Your idle temps for the gpu should be lowered to about 45 degrees like mine (since you have the 5930G they should be within similar temperature thresholds).
If the temps don't drop, it's time to backup your data and call Acer.

    Question:
How were your temperatures when you first got the laptop and when did these higher temps started appearing?
Also, how old is your laptop?

P.S. You have a lot of files on your desktop. Ever thought about cleaning them up a bit?

    Wait wait wait ...
    I just noticed something.

Hyeclass ... this thread is for Acer Aspire 5930G.
I rechecked something as it simply wasn't sounding right, and noticed you typed in you have a 5920G ?

The 5930G is different compared to 5920G when it comes to their gpu's/cpu's and other components.
What are your laptop specs specifically?
We can still try to help you despite you having a different laptop, but admittedly it was pretty confusing as I throught you wrote 5930 and not 5920.

Also, you can open up your laptop casing and clean out the coolers on your own (after applying the compressed air of course).

    Much better.
The gpu is 9500M GS ... a rebrand of 8600M GT (same card ... possibly diffent though in some areas, not sure ... but exactly the same performance wise).

    Here's what I suggest:
Use the compressed air (when the laptop is OFF ... make sure you first press some air out of the can away from the laptop so any excess fluids would come out as I wouldn't want to risk potential fluids inside the laptop) and check the temps.
If they drop significantly, then you're in the clear, if not, open up your laptop and try to clean out the coolers on your own (carefully).
Reseal the laptop and check the temperatures again.

If they don't drop down, as I said, backup the data and call Acer.
There is a remote possibility that the gpu is overheating.
The 8600 cards had this issue and apparently most of new Nvidia gpu's are affected by the soldering problem apart from the 96xx series (for now).

Well, I got the Zalman cooler ... it's fans running on maximum ... and I'm far from impressed.
The temperatures appear to be lower by only 2 or 3 degrees.
It's a possibility I got a problematic one, but I'm not exactly sure.
Anyone else tried this cooler on the 5930G ?

The Zalmans air holes are covering the laptop's air vents if that's what you are asking.
Hm ... actually, the CPU vent was not seated on the air holes ... I adjusted it now and the temps seem to be by about 5 degrees lower.
The GPU on the other hand was cooler ... that much I have noticed.

Right now I have to go out.
I did some ORTHO's testing today and the temps were not really different from the time I didn't have the cooler (but that was likely contributed by the fact the cpu air vent was not on the cooler air holes properly.

I'm gonna do some heavier testing tonight when I get back from town to see if I got it wrong.
I don't like doing these things when I'm ill.

Hmm, I'm just watching video and browsing now.
Both CPU and GPU temp already reach 66 (GPU) and 64 (CPU) degrees... :(

For both of you guys ... it's odd you have such high temps.
But also consider that Acer's don't have the best cooling at their disposal regardless of how new the tech inside the casing is.

My temps seem to be about 10 to 15 degrees lower than yours on the gpu count.
Which is odd considering that 9600m GT was made in a 65nm manuf. process.

Btw ... it would appear that Zalman IS doing it's job.
The idle temps for the CPU seem to be at 51 to 54 deg (depending if I browse or not) with Zalman alone (the laptop coolers for the cpu aren't apparently even active as I can't hear them as usual).

I will do some gaming with and without the Zalman active and post the results later in the evening or tomorrow.

Hmm I don't think it's that odd. I've read in several forums, 5920G is indeed hot. GPU idle temp is 50-60 depends on the environment.
Right now my GPU temp is around 60-63, without air conditioner, just browsing around. And the temp is also depends on the driver that we use.

i see... well it doesn't really bother me tho it would be nice to have it a bit cooler when gaming...

    VERY TRUE... :(
But I can't complain. All 5920G have the same issues. Oh well...
And I've been searching as well, there is no notebook cooler that perfectly can cool down 5920G... :(

Btw ... the Zalman is doing it's job.
The idle temps seem to be the same just like when the cpu cooler is active (51 deg for Core 0 and 53 deg for Core1) ... and for now, only Zalman is the one that can be heard as active.
    :)

Under load, I would say that Zalman is keeping my temperatures by about 5 to 10 degrees lower (which tends to vary of course and is depending on a variety of factors).

Yesterday when I opened up my window to let some fresh air in (which also cooled down the room temp ... which did get a bit high throughout the day), the idle temps dipped down to 45 deg for core 0 and 48 deg for Core 1.
The gpu was was on 40 degrees as a result.
    Only Zalman was running btw.

So I would say that it's a pretty good investment.
I plan to undervolt my cpu when RM clock will be able to support it, along with the gpu to try and futher decrease the temps.
    :)

hey that's good to hear... :)
I still saving the money to buy the cooler. But I still don't know which cooler that I should buy... I need to research more.

nice ... thinking of buying it too...
but i had a home-made cooler with a cpu cooler soldered to a power adapter....
wich blew like a real vent...(very hard) :p

and with that my gpu was around 70* when gaming

In that case, I don't think you need a Zalman.
Just make another home made cooler like that and you're pretty much set.

    MysteryE

Zalman NC2000B is rated to be the best ...
But ... you can also try to create a home-made cooler which would do the same for a much lower fee.

Acers cooling design on my 5684WLMi is pretty much OK. The major issue (IMHO) has been the HDD. Seen temps at around 65 Degrees C on a very hot day.

No good at all. Since the Seagate drive in there is rated at 55 Degrees C MAX.

Built my own cooler. Since then never seen the HDD go above 45 Degrees C ever.

Gotta keep the plastic under the lappie cool - the HDD has no cooling whatsoever in its sealed little bay.

However, keeping this small sealed plastic cover under the HDD cooler has lowered HDD temps dramatically.

    I kid you not.

    Here's an update.

Playing Bioshock for about 2 and a half hours (maxed out settings on 1280x800 res)... the temperatures were the following with Zalman:

    CPU: Core 0 - 70 deg C, Core 1 - 71 deg C

    GPU: 61 deg C

And Without Zalman, they were about 10 deg C higher.
So yes, I'd say it's a pretty good investment.
Now if I can find a way to undervolt both the gpu and cpu without decreasing their performances ... it could provide another 10 deg C drop in temperature for both components.

Although, I do have a question.
Powermizer never really presented a problem for me ... however, is there a way to keep the gpu on low speeds (such as the ones when not in use) when using VLC for example?
The gpu has a tendency of firing up to it's max speeds when VLC for example is active ... but it's hardly needed.

I only need the gpu to fire up to full capacity when using 3dsMax for example, games and the likes.
For watching movies in VLC (or even Vista aero - which I don't use), it's hardly necessary.

    Hooo... 10 degree lower?
That's good! But it's a little bit expensive... $50... hmmm...

How to make home made cooler?
Is there any thread talking about this?
    Step by step?

i was just thinking :p it would be nice to see people post their home made stuff... :p

well mine broke down after a pencil got in the vent :p but i'll be making a new one one of these days .... i'll be sure to post that ...
this is what mine looked like:
red is vent and power line :p
just used an old cpu cooler there ... 12 volts i think

the thing is its not very portable wich is the case with zalman

I'll be waiting for that :)

Can u post the real thing? Not just the concept image?
It's not a problem if it's not portable. I need the cooler when I work at home (gaming :p). When I'm in other place, I just use snap ball.
