    Hi!

The settings are "IDE" in BIOS for the HDD.
Bios Ver: v1.21 (got that version by default)

So I got REAL problems when trying to install Win XP Pro SP2 on my brand new Acer Aspire 5930G-733G25Mn.

First I tried to slipstream the ahci driver and making a custom XP disk, that didn't work, I got BSOD before the first part (blue background and white text) of the Windows installation.

Ok so I bought a USB-floppy only for this problem and loaded "f6flpy32_85.zip" onto a floppydisk and pressed "F6" to load SATA drivers under the Win XP installation boot.

EDIT: I extracted the files onto a floppy, there are no .zip file on the floppy only the contents of that .zip file.

I then chose "Intel(R) ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E SATA RAID Controller" then I can get past the "first phase" of the Win XP installation.

BUT when I get to the end of the first installation with an automatic reboot within 15sec or enter to do it directly the following happends:

(I remove the floppy before rebooting)

    A) If I got the CD-ROM over the HDD (in boot priority) after the CD detects that I haven't pressed any button and it gives searches the HDD it just restarts. It restarts in absurdum.

    B) If I got the HDD at first bootdevice it simply stops after POST and BIOS and just stands there with a "_" blinking.

I have got a few partitions:

    One NTFS
    One FAT32
    One EXT3
    One Linux SWAP

I think neither is numbered Partition 1 but should this really matter? (None are Partition 1, I think their numbering starts at like 3 and goes to 6)

PLEASE I really need help, just got this and thought installing XP was going to be a breeze but I has been a real hassle.

    Thanks in advance - TheSwede86

    EDIT:

Ok after removing all partitions and creating a new partition only for Windows it worked :D

    1. If you're running in IDE mode you don't need SATA(ahci) drivers...?
    2. You have linux installed? With GRUB?

I think that what happend was that I installed Linux before Windows and made a few more partitions (FAT32 and SWAP) and Windows didn't like that.

GRUB never loaded, it only loaded when I booted without trying to install Windows XP.

I could never install Windows even when I chose "IDE" mode in the BIOS.

But I what you mean if that I chose "IDE" in BIOS I never need to load the SATA drivers? Only if I chose "AHCI" I need to load the drivers?

Is there any drawback installing Windows XP in IDE vs. AHCI mode?

If you select IDE mode in your BIOS you do NOT need to load SATA drivers to install Windows XP. As for IDE vs AHCI performance-wise - there is no difference when running Windows XP. So you're good to go with IDE..

Sweet, a real thanks for your reply.

Seen different threads all claiming to have XP drivers for the 5930G, do you know any that the drivers/links work on?

Thanks, been there and most links are Vista drivers, not working, dead links etc.

Would want a confirmed list of working drivers, have posted that request in the 5930G thread.

Some of the "Vista" drivers might be "XP/Vista" actually so you might give it a try.
