Need to know the current panel first; run HWiNFO or MonInfo to find out.

And glossy ok? Has deeper blacks and better colours, all other things being equal, so it'd be preferable for movies.

Thank you for your answer. According to HWiNFO the panel is Lg Philips LP154WX4-TLB4. Can i get a better one even with higher resolution?

Better; yes. Higher resolution; no. That is, without changing the display cable, which you've specifically ruled out; 900p or over needs a 2-channel cable and you probably have a single channel now. That is not a given, though; a 2-channel is backward compatible with a single channel lcd. If the system also came with 900p+ lcds then they might've simplified assembly by using a single, full-fledged cable. Which cable it really is can be checked easily; the 1-channel will have about a third if its pins missing at one side.

Sticking with 800p displays; the LTN154XB-L01 is glorious (on paper; no reviews). Can even buy the genuine article with 100% certainty (you don't want 'compatible', as that's a lottery). It really is miles and miles ahead of your current display and a perfect match for movies. Only thing ... it's a dual CCFL and your current lcd only has a single CCFL tube. That means you need to check the motherboard to see if there's a second, disused 2-pin power plug.
