i don't know whether this is serious, or if it will lead to a major problem- but whenever i press the power button the lights come on, the hdd spins up a bit then it restarts and runs normally....

also, it may not be related but every so often the screen goes blank and comes back saying the drivers were lost and recovered.

    What's going on.

It's possible that the drivers got corrupted.
    :D

To be serious though ... hmm ... I wouldn't necessarily put the blame on the hardware.
How long do you have the laptop?
I have the 5930G for about 22 days now without problems.

You could try going to Safe mode of Windows remove the existing drivers for the gpu (if it's those drivers that the error is for) clean up the system, then re-install the drivers, and restart the laptop.

If it doesn't solve the problem ... you could try backing up your work, and re-installing the OS (also formating that partition before re-installation).

If you don't have a separate Vista installation disk ... then initializing the recovery could be done easily (you will have to clean up all the acer unnecessary programs of course but it's a small price to pay for a working system).

Btw ... I forgot to ask earlier ... did you install anything or did something happen to the laptop before this issue began at all?

I have had it since early september. the display thing has been happening for the past month, with it getting more frequent (at first it was once a week, then two, now it is every time i turn it on). I have not been installing anything unusual, just a couple games.....

    switch the laptop off.
    remove power cable.
    Remove the battery.
    replace power cable.
    restart laptop.
now let us know if problem stops.

do you have a D: partition?
if so move all important files to that partition(they will be safe there )
then try a repair using the DVD's you was asked to burn when you first got the laptop. you did burn them ?

PS have you just or in the past few weeks before the trouble started, upgraded your ram ?
