Are they available, are they required if I run 64-bit Vista, and any advantage to having the 64-bit version on my system?

4gb of ram, will be recognized? good luck with the drivers man, acer's ability to have up-to-date drivers is as good as there support.

You shouldn't have any problems going to 64bit vista on the 5100. Take a look at this thread about another aspire 5100 user who installed vista ultimate x64.
Windows update should find most of the drivers for the 5100 series(as it did for my 32bit install), however you could still go to ATI, synaptics etc and get the individual 64bit drivers. On my next reinstall (scheduled for next month) I am considering going to 64bit but vista x64 requires signed drivers; that along with a few other little things are causing me to rethink if I will switch or not . -
How it is with Vista x64 performance against XP 32bit on 2Gb of RAM Aspire 5102?
64-Bit drivers for Vista on Aspire 5100?
