So I bought myself the acer 8930 which has 32 bit vista
I know vista doesn't use part of the ram but my question was, does it really make a performance change to reckon with?
Also a few friends of me told me that my processor would not be supported very well by 64bit  What's up with that? They say I need a 64 bit processor although many people here on the forum seem to do a clean install on models which have the same processor as mine

Your friends don't know what they are talking about. You have a 64bit processor.

As for performance, I found that 64bit Vista was a bit faster than 32bit but not worlds of difference.

*** indeed. For one thing, a processor either supports the 64-bit arch. or it doesn't. There is no "pretty good" or "great" support. The second correction is that the Core 2 does support the 64-bit architecture; it always has.

You won't notice much of a performance increase. In some cases, one doesn't notice any increase at all. 64-Bit is good, if you have more than 4GB RAM.
And as said, the T9400, and all Core 2 Duos are 64-bit Compliant. ( Intel EM64T)
