Well i purchased the laptop about a day ago and it's still in the mail. Most of the reviews I've read praise the laptop for being a good mid class desktop replacement. But recently i've been reading the forums here about dead pixles and crashes. and I had a few questions i'm hoping someone can answer.
1. Did the dead pixles happen on the non-HD screens? or are the HD screen affected as well.
2. Can i completely wipe the computer and just install windows vista ultimate 64 bit? or will this cause problems with the media panel and graphics drivers.(seen alot about the restore disks, just want to know about completely wiping it)
3. There were mentions about a few retailers pulling models from their lineups, I know that best buy only sells the 1.87Ghz models, anyone have any problems with the higher end versions?
Stats of the rig i bought. 2.4Ghz processor, 4Gb ram, Nvidia 9500M, 320Gb HDD, and the HD screen. Basically like the other ones but with a better processor and the HD screen..... god i hate dead pixles.

Hey, Phillysteak congrats on the purchase. I have the same model you do, I bought mine from newegg. Honsetly I have not had any problems with the laptop whats so ever. It is a sleek looking machine and pretty fast for anything you can throw at other than Crysis. I don't know if you are a gamer or not but this rig is good enough for me. Anyway, pepole only run into problems when they start tweaking around with the laptop. Everything runs great from out of the box, but I would suggest that you take all the acer crap off of it to speed it up a little bit. And I forgot to mention that there are no dead pixels on my machine but I may be one of the lucky ones.

Graphics drivers can be re-downloaded from Acer's website - as far as I can tell, they don't have any specific special tweaks.
The CineDash requires Launch Manager, iirc. -
The only problem is that I dont think offers the 9500M GS graphic driver for Vista 64 bit, you will have to find it some where else. I could be wrong though.

I was under the assumption that it came with Vista 64 home edition, my mistake. Actually that works out better as i already own 32 bit ultimate =).
And thanks guys i guess it's not as many people having those dead pixels as i was originally thinking. -
yes the 64bit drivers for 9500 are on acer ftp website
ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_6920G/vista/Drivers/
also included here is the 64bit drivers for vista that is not included with the acer driver cd -
I've heard that the HDD can hang causing BSOD's. And that it was a problem with a certain driver. Anyone know about this issue/ a solution?

I just want to add something here. You'll NEVER find a laptop that doesn't cause any problems, minor or major.

if you do run in to problems, NBR is here to help
enjoy your new toy

Phillysteak, if you bought it from newegg it did come with vista home edition 64 installed, but apparently graphic drivers wont be a problem wich ever vista edition you chose. gekk gad thanks for the link and the info.

Hopefully downgrading it from a 64 bit to a 32 bit wont cause too much trouble. I'll make the backup disks though incase i need to go back to the 64 of course =)
