    i actually have the 8920G.

    havent updated my BIOSS yet.

BUT i dare say that the fan issue is related to the Nvidia fiasco.

Well why you do not look things from the bright side ...

Does your system runs cooler ?
Is your system more stable , at the Hot days and at full load ?
What season is at your location today ? ( My area has 40C right now )
So there is no way this little fan, to stop spinning for a break.

    Take care ..

The fan problems is not caused by the latest BIOS because I have it too. And it's only working at the highest speed when it's on full load.

I would like to see things in a brighter side but the noise really bothers me at night since I mainly use my computer at night.

The strange thing is that before I flashed the new BIOS, the fan was going fine (not on full load). Now I wonder what I really got from doing this....

For those who have not yet updated your BIOS, please think twice.

But I do also hope to find a solution and hope anyone here could help me calm my fan down a little bit.

You do not have the right to declare public warnings,
at the time that you are uncertain about your problem !!

For what i am certain , are that you did not save ( backup) your old bios !!
Any way ... to downgrade its not a big deal .. ACER always offer and the older versions .

Instead of hopping , start looking at the ACER FTP for the old version.
And only if you fail to do this , i will find it, for you , the proper one ...
What was the old version name ?

hehe, calm down kiriakost. i am not here to give warning to anyone and I am just a user who entercountered a problem. Just want to share my experiences. Everyone is free to express, do not forget...

Downgrade is not a problem that I know and there are only three versions availble on acer website now which are v1.06 V1.07 and newest one V1.10
I tried each of them and no luck with each of them.

To answer your former question about my location, I am in Brussels.

For me, the answer from mookill seems more reasonable, perhaps acer does the same as Dell to upgrate the bios to help to cool the protentially defective GPU

If anyone wants 1.02 (or 03, I don't remember exactly), I've backed it up from mine.

Off-topic: havetohope, did you bought a version of 6920 with Windows Vista x64 installed?

Well, i am calm ... specially now that i finished , of washing my motorcycle . :D

And i drink also a nice frozen coffee , as its 1:15 midday , and the sun its a killer .

But still i can not accept as technician , problems like a spinning fan , that leads to generic gossip about potentially defective GPU .

Me and many others , we are here to help , but at list guide as ,
with real proofs , so to get an effective answer ..

So you are from the Eurovilage too, thats nice , whats your room temp ?

Another practical solution would be to create one new XP hardware profile,
unloading all the services that you do not use at night .
Less services = less CPU cycles = less temperature

hehe, thanks for the great tips. It is not that warm here in Brussels, a little cold acutally (around 20 degree in my room)

I have been observing the pc since last night and I kept it in idle so the usage of cpu stayed more or like around 10 percent but not even one single minute the fan stopped. The fan was just running at a medium rate the whole time.

It is not a big problem acutally. I am just a little surprised that the change of BIOS brought such a thing up. Personally speaking, I prefer to have the fan of my computer run in a interval when needed instead of the whole time due to the noise.

Perhaps it is just a matter of getting used to it...

Ok i will give you another tip , as this 10% CPU usage does not sound good to me.

Did you start using a new anti virus or so ? if yes remove it ( even for testing) .

A normal CPU idle usage, must be no more than 1- 3% !!

it is FACT that Nvidia has issue with their mobile parts and i would not be surprised if Acer has adjusted the FAN via BIOSS.

HP, DELL - all the big names have already done so.

And not just forum pages , the real thing .

Bios release XXX01 updates xxxx for few more spins at the cooling fan.

Firstly - i do not need to provide you proof but below are the links where HP and DELL have already issued BIOSS updates.

Secondly - if you continue to dispute the Nvidia issue, you will not see response from myself.

Simply put it is an insult to question something that is broadly acknowledged in the Tech industry.

Ok lets talk with facts ...

At my laptop , if i run the eManager --> Acer Settings --> Boot options -->

There two options there, other than the boot order .

    1) Enable fast boot ... option found at the Bios too.

    2) Fan always enabled !! .... option not found on the Bios ;)

Try this root and tell me if you have the same options.

There is a chance to disable the " Fan always enabled " by a simple selection.

mookill , thanks for your response ...

But i had press the hold button on our dialog for now.

As i had post above fresh info ,and i like to see if its an small problem easily solved , just by the ACER console.

To be honest, I would LOVE to have a fan that ran on high all the time.
EDIT: I have 1.06 currently, and am somewhat averse to updating my BIOS for fear of a bricked system.

I would like to have your 1.02 version, CQSTELUSH.
Would you please send it to my email [email protected]?
To answer your question, my 6920G is not 64 vista.

Nope, I'm using the 1.10 version. This is the back-up I've made before switching to 1.06, than 1.07 and them 1.10.

The fact that WinPhlash is also writing the boot block (and making the recovery impossible) does not scare me, despite the fact that I've spent 2500$ on my configuration. :D

Is there more changes than what they say on the version file? Because I don't see any reason to risk flashing the bios right now
