OK, so now that Bladezor, camote, and I have come to the conclusion that the 6920G's CPU cooling may not be completely up to snuff - or just paranoid - it's time to poll users to see what notebook coolers they use for their Gemstone Blues.

I'm gonna guess it'll be the Zalman NC2000 or the Cooler Master Notepal Infinity that gets mentioned the most.

Think I'm gonna try to pick one up once I'm back at univ in Sept.

Mat, the graphics card would be where that big empty space below the fan is in your image, which is obviously from the 6920.

What are the purpose of the hole(for exemple above number 86 in second picture)? Are they there to let cool air come and expluse some hot air? Should I push air in there or take it out?

since the only fan in the system is pulling air in from the bottom vents and then pushing it out thru the rear exhaust; i'd guess that you will want to force air up thru the bottom vents.. as opposed to trying to pull air out thru the bottom.

I have been surfing all day with mine on my lap - it is cool to the touch. Not even warm. How soon do the heat issues manifest themselves?

Try tasking your CPU to the limit with some heavy-duty stuff like video encoding for a while, or playing intensive 3D games.

Play something very intense like a 3d game to make it hot.

Filling the 320GB is fun - I've got about 65 GB still left!

I'm trying REAL hard, believe me. Music, videos, games, applications...my hard drive is getting a real workout, I can tell you THAT much.
Plus, I'm thinking of getting Windows XP back on the system in a dual-boot set-up, if only temporarily.
Maybe even a Linux distro just for fun - already got a Knoppix CD.

Most of my games are 10 GB each - Mass Effect, GRID, my Steam is at least 40 GB.

I have been sitting on Witcher, NWN2, Sins, Company of Heroes.

I've got a problem walking away from bargain bins - I got Halo 2 for $6 and Lost Planet for $1. :D

XP64 runs great on this BTW

Good to know if I ever up to 4GB.
I should probably fill out my Steam soon, especially with that id Games sale going on.

I put quite a few hours of Mass Effect and GRID in and this thing is cool a cucumber compared to my old MacBook. Maybe it will deteriorate, but temp is one thing that does not bother me about the 6920g.

Max temp on the case for me was 45 Celcius. The Macbook hits 55 surfing normal websites.

The case itself NEVER gets extremely hot when I use it.
Just my poor widdle CPU, and even then that's no longer an issue.

Nope - my room's cooler, and I train my household fan on my system when I need to.
    Problem solved!

Dude, if the case was not hot than the CPU never was either.

Folks are getting 80-90 celcius with 60-65 at the case watching videos on macbooks - that is a heat problem.

    :p

    Trust me, the CPU was.
It's just that the CPU is mounted at the top left of the notebook under the power button, away from everything else, and was the ONLY component overheating.
I know, I know, just believe me, ok? ;)
