    Guys,

A friend of mine has a 6920G that had its mobo replaced due to faulty motherboard. Unfortunately, it has happened again - he turns it on, but it does not POST, just the blue light turns on, but it does not go any furhter. However, it's out of warranty now :(

I remember at the time I found a website, where a guy had screenshots and explained that he had the same problem and it turned out to be a fuse on the mobo. He points exaclty which one and how to fix it.

Does anyone happen to know the website?

    Thanks!

Could possibly be bad RAM stick, will not post if memory is bad.

it's supposed to give a beep code if it's the RAM, exactly the same behavior as the last time, but they changed it under warranty (it happened few days before the warranty expired). They changed the mobo at that point, but it's been 6 months now, so the repair is no longer warranted.

If only I could find that website ...

If you don't have bad RAM, you're facing down a common problem with the 6920G.

Your GPU card will require a reflow of the GPU BGA. Let me guess, nVidia 8600M?

You'll probably have to hunt for a shop that can do the work, or buy a new one. In my experience, the 8600M is terrible about surviving reflows. Bad chip design.

Nice thing is, it's easy to access/remove the card via the bottom access panel.

Edit: If you are thinking about popping things off the logic to fix it, that's a common fix for No-Power 5920's. Two ceramic caps near the RAM Sockets tend to blow out and take VCC to GND. Not the same issue here.

The 6920G uses the GeForce 9500M GS, which is a refined (and possibly fixed) 8600M GT.
