It is compatible. Which is the best? Excluding SSD which are too pricey- you could consider 7200rpm drives like- either something cheap but still good like Samsung SpinPoint MP4 500 GB (7200, 16MB, Serial ATA/300) or Hitachi Travelstar 7K500 500 GB (7200, 16MB, Serial ATA/300) or something more expensive like Seagate Momentus XT 500 GB (7200, 32MB/4GB SSD, Serial ATA/300).
Depends on your budget but I would suggest a 7200rpm drive- these are visibly faster and make overall notebook experience a lot better.
