So I have one of the new acer gemstone blues, the 6920g with T8300 and tv tuner, and other than the one dead pixel on the screen and taking some time to get used to the keyboard I've been very happy with it. However it sometimes randomly freezes up, sometimes for a few seconds and sometimes for a few minutes. It will generally eventually recover and carry on as if nothing happened. I thought at first it was only when playing WoW, but it has happened when not playing too.
Looking in the event log, this corresponds to an error about iastor not responding within the timeout period. Googling shows a whole batch of errors with Dell laptops showing this error related to the Intel Matrix Storage Manager, but that seemed to be from 2006/2007, surely Acer would be using new/fixed drivers?
Has anyone else noticed this error or have any idea how to fix it?

No,but if I were you I'd go to http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx and reinstall the driver. Run chkdsk to make sure the file is not corrupted.

I have sent mine to the service. The subwoofer was not working and those 3 dead pixels...
-
what is policy with dead pixels if found? do they replace or fixed for a price?
-
I don't know, but mine with 3 dead pixels was sent to service (they know about two of them, so...).

I have / had the same problem.
i found a great tip on www.paulscomputerservice.net
I am pretty sure that I solved the issue on my computer by renaming this registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStor\Parameters]
to
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStor\Parameters.Bad]
Then reboot and see if that fixes your problem. Good Luck!

There is new version of Intel Matrix Storage Manager, if you have problem you could give it a shot.

that's why it is a good idea to check the display before purchasing... you show the sales perosn the cash,,, and they usually will allow you to open the box to verify it's contents.... then just take it a step further... and insert a DVD with a few testing programs like CPUID or RM CLOCK,,, and there are some programs that test fro dead pixels just use the search button below in my sig...and search for
laptop display test dead pixel

Online shopping, so...

Just if anyone's curious - support told me it might be indicative of a hardware problem, so I sent it back and got a replacement which has shown no problems. So, if you have the problem, the registry key thing might work but might just be masking an underlying hardware problem that'll still be there.
