Hey guys,
Recently, i had installed windows7 on my acer 6920g. Everything works fine except for the audio. I tried the default windows update drivers, vista drivers that came with my laptop and also windows7 drivers of 6930g. Tuba doesn't work at all and the sound is like a tin can. And for some drivers the microphone doesn't work. (Currently im using 6930g windows 7 drivers and the microphone works. Tuba is still not working.)
On top of that the sound becomes distorted every few minutes and i have to restart media player or any audio playing application to make it normal. After few minutes of playing any audio it happens again. Sometimes when playing game the sound will become distorted and the only way to make it normal is to restart the game.
Help please. How to make my tuba work again in windows 7?
-
Download Realtek v2.35, it is latest currently.
After download, install it and restart your computer.
Open your Control Panel, find Acer HD Audio Manager.
Adjust the sound as you wish, it won't be hitting tin can anymore. LOL.
By the way, welcome to Windows 7. It works great on AS6920G. I am the AS6920G user too, I can tell that. -
Thanks for the help.
But what did you mean by adjusting the sound as i wish? I already have acer HD audio manager. I played with all the settings. But no use. Speaker configuration is 5.1. But when i do the auto test, i cant hear any sound from the subwoofer(tuba) even when the volume is at 100.
Are you sure that yours work? -
Select your speakers and then press Properties.
Speakers Properties will appear, go to Dolby tab.
Adjust your setting there. -
I think that only drivers from Acer will make Tuba work. I installed 2 or 3 realtek drivers and none of them provided the sound that I'm used to with the Acer ones even though I changed the speaker configuration to 5.1
Moreover, the sound distortion is a common issue with most Aspire 6920G owners I think. -
@DarkSilver
The thing is that the tuba is not working. Adjusting the settings there also won't make any difference.
Try this. Go to your Sound in the Control Panel. Go to the Playback tab.
Select your speakers and then press Configure.
Speakers Setup will appear, choose 5.1 and click test.
Can you hear sound from all the speakers?
Sorry. Im just confused and annoyed.
@Feoras
The sound distortion is common. But it only occurred once in awhile when i was on vista. But now it occurs every few minutes and its very annoying since i cant even play a song full without any distortion. -
Because I am using external speakers and subwoofer.
Build-in subwoofer no good. LOL. -
win 7 realtek v2.35 working fine here on my 8930g and tuba is working fine also
-
Maybe OP's ears problem? XD -
It's not the OP's ears, I have the same problem.
Except I've got the 6930G.
After installing a whole bunch of Acer and realtek drivers for 7 and Vista, then throwing the Acer software on to boot I finally got the Tuba to work. However, I also get the distortion problem the OP mentions, and it should be noted, the results of this are pretty horrific, you cannot listen to music while this is going on, and even Youtube videos etc suffer from it.
There never seems to be any specific reason, and once or twice it has resolved itself. The other umpteen times it has required attention though.
What I have found stops it temporarily is to change the setting from 5.1 to stereo (or vice-versa), it sort of "re-boots" the speakers, but this only works for a moment and then the distortion can cut in again at any time.
Very, very annoying, and is rendering the laptop pretty useless for many purposes. A concrete workaround is required big time, if anyone has a clue please share! -
Could installing acer eAudio solve the problem? But i couldn't find a windows7 version of eAudio.
-
This thread;
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=335855
has a link to the Acer e... software.
Installing it helped by Tuba work, but did nothing to resolve the distortion, so I uninstalled it all again. Turning the internal subwoofer to 0 seems to stop it, but then that makes the sound awful and tinny! -
I have also had terrible problems with updating my sound driver on my 6920g,not one post to my thread i started last week asking for help which i was quite suprise at,i tried changing from stock Acer sound to realtek 2.34 as i found that Darksilver had posted directions to another 6920g user on how to do this as his were working "flawless",never did he mention he was listening to external speakers and not the laptops as i have just found within this thread,i found that headphone sound was great but internal speakers were awful,very tinny,popped cracked and distorted and no matter what adjustments i made it did not help and then i found the newer 2.35 and the same happened with them so in the end i returned to Acer ones and everything has come back as good as new,i have smooth warm tones to my sound again.
The reason i wanted to change were because i had trouble with a glitchy game but that seems to have cleared now with a patch.
I am by far an expert on modifying but i reckon that the acer driver must have some extra info/code to handle the hardware than standard realtek drivers,that is for vista32 cases anyhow.
Vimalan have you tried going back to original driver to test??
My tuba in the settings section never gave me any noticable effect,it was only upon re-installing original after the realtek rubbish that i realized it is there all along.
I was led to believe that using ccleaner and drive sweeper during uninstall/reinstall would give me flawless results but after failed update i just used the normal way.(just in case you have read the experts post too)
Hopefully if enough of us post the problems as we change sound drivers then someone with a better understanding may find a fix.
Ohh and care some and not be so quick to blame the user!!! -
I have yet to change from the Acer drivers, specifically because my experience with stock Realtek drivers have not been positive.
Remember, the Tuba is controlled by the Internal Subwoofer volume level in your Speakers Properties. (right-click on Volume icon, click Playback Devices, then highlight Speakers and hit Properties)
If there's a marked difference in sound between 100 and 0 on the Internal Subwoofer, then the thing is working.
It's also possible that your expectations of what the Tuba should do are unrealistic. It's NOT a subwoofer - it's more of a mid-end booster.
I've run into a distortion issue every now and again, but closing and reopening any programs that had sound/music playing (in my case, Firefox and WMP) solves it for me. -
Hey guys,
I just installed eAudio that came with my vista. Still the subwoofer is not working if run 5.1 tests but the sound is much better(Not tinny). But can anyone running vista with default acer audio drivers can confirm this?
My configurations for my 6920g are:
windows 7 professional 32bit
6930g windows 7 32bit audio driver
eAudio that came with my vista home premium 32bit
@fragglefart
I didn't download the eAudio from that thread because those e... are 64 bit.
@motlee
Just read your old thread. Glad that your problem was solved. Are you running vista 32bit?
@TehSuigi
Im not expecting too much from tuba. I just want my sound to be normal just like it was when i was on vista. -
I think the reason you hear no sound from the tuba during the sound test is that it is not a separate sub woofer and does not recieve from the subwoofer channel. It simply "deepens" the existing sounds wether it be, mono, stereo or 5.1 by using a software mix. Correct me if im wrong as im only presuming, but its not a sub woofer and a sub has a its on dedicated channel. This is the reason it works during games/movies/music but makes no sound when testing the subwoofer through windows setup.
I also get the distortion sound every now and then but correct it by either changing my sound output 4800 to 4400 frequency or vice versa. I have tried just about every driver and solution I have read but nothing fix's it perment.
Oh and I have a 6930g.

Sorry, wrong thread my bad....
-
Reboot!
Then uninstall the realtek driver.
Reboot.
Then install the new 2.35 realtek drivers?
This solved my crackling sound issue in Vista as in Windows 7. Also you should hear sound coming from the Tuba when running a 5.1 test. -
My default AS6920G Windows Vista with original/stock Drivers gave me distorted sound after a few minutes of music. I am not sure it is the Driver problem or the BIOS's. Because I didn't jot down anything about it.
I just know that after I flash the BIOS, the problem gone.
By the way, Nvidia HDMI is better than Realtek? Are you sure it works for AS6920G? -
@Bracken21
As far as I know, during the 5.1 test, we should hear the subwoofer sound. -
Yeah I could easly be wrong, but im sure I read somewhere that the tuba is just a bass extender and not sub so does not accept from LFE like a sub, hence the reason no sound when you click on the sub for a test (just my thought)
I had tested what spaanplaat wrote but no luck for me
I do hope we find solution for the issue's tho, as the crackling for me is worse in Win 7.
I have noticed though the distortion appears to happen only when sound is playing and the CPU spikes to 100% for what ever reason - distortion does not go away after the CPU load is back within normal though.

Have you all tried on flashing the BIOS to the latest version? It seems fix the problem for me.
The current version is v1.14. It can be downloaded from Acer Support website, http://gd.panam.acer.com/home/ -
Yeah I have latest bios version for my laptop - My laptop is the 6930g - i'm only posting in here as I suffer the problems and presume the two laptops have similer speaker setups and drivers for what I have searched.
Thank you for the advise anyway.

If still can't, try the Default Format tab. There are some Sound Quality to be adjusted. I think it can fix it but can't be sure also. Just try it out. Hopefully, it can. >.< -
@Vimalan - No, the subwoofer sound test is too low for the Tuba to emit. Trust me on this one; my Tuba works just fine, and it's never done anything on the 5.1 subwoofer test.
Also, I've always been using stereo speaker configuration. Maybe that's the difference? -
@Bracken21
Yeah, the crackling sound is much worse in 7 than vista.
@TehSuigi
When i first installed windows 7, as i coudn't find any windows 7 drivers for 6920g, i tried many different drivers and i remember that during 5.1 test the tuba worked. But only when use MSN i realised that my microphone didn't work. But after trying more drivers, now the microphone works but tuba doesn't. -
The 5.1 option will allow you to have nicer sound waves.
Because this laptop is virtually support 5.1 Surround.
The Internal Subwoofer's Power Level can be changed or modified in the Control Panel or Playback devices. It is on the Levels tab.
Control Panel>Sound>Playback>Properties>Levels -
The Internal Subwoofer's Power Level is at 100 percent by the way.
-
Actually, did you experienced any sound distortion?
The Tuba doesn't really shake your room even it is described to shake your room LOL. Tuba is just a very little subwoofer which enhance the sound effect slightly(make virtual surround).
I tested my laptop AS6920G(Realtek) with my friend's laptop HDX-16(Nvidia HDMI).
He can't have the 5.1 option, while I can. We adjusted on the same setting and tested the same music. AS6920G performs better.
So, if you're out of Sound Distortion problem. Then, the only problem left will be your own ears. My housemate(HDX16) claims his laptop sound was no good after doing a clean installation of OS(windows 7) even I installed the latest Nvidia HDMI for him and he adjusted those sound waves very well. The thing I could do is ask him to "STFU, it is your ears have the problem, not the laptop. I have heard your laptop's music for a year and I felt the performance is the same.". After that, he tried to recall and think a while, adjust a bit more and tested some musics again. He said, I suppose to have the 5.1 setting too. I was like OMG! I told him, "the 1st day you shown me your laptop(HDX16 doesn't have 5.1 indeed), I can't see any 5.1 setting on the Nvidia HDMI of yours. Now, you're not only having ear problem and even memory disorder."
Then, he think again deeply and found that I was right. He said maybe he thinks too much already and over imagine the performance. Another housemate helped too, he claims the sound performance have no difference as well(windows 7).
Well, after this story, I can do a hypothesis that the problem is your ears and your memory instead. Anyway, this is hypothesis, so, it can be false. -
What would you do if your speakers play tinny sound when it is suppose to produce WARM(not room shaking) sounds?
I had said that after installing eAudio the sound is much better but still tuba is not working during 5.1 test. Actually what eAudio has done is that it makes the sound warm by adding equalizer. If i choose default setting in eAudio the sound is still tinny. -
Well, the equalizer is there always for me after I install the Realtek Driver.
I always set it to ROOM and 5.1 Surround(virtual). If I want to boost the sound, I would add ROCK. As ROCK produces high-low waves which will cause the sound to be stronger. -
@DarkSilver : You made me remember what the user in the thread I talked about said for the distortion issue. Like you said, you have to change the sound effect to Generic or Room, and also change the equalizer to Rock. I also remember that you had to turn on the "Loudness Equalization". It didn't work for me when tried this a few months ago but perhaps it will work for other members in this thread.
Anyway, the distortion issue never really annoyed me though it seems like someone else said in the thread that it happens a little bit more often in Windows 7 (perhaps I'm being paranoid). I'm not going to throw away this great OS just because of a sound issue that happens rarely though. This issue would be annoying for me only if it happened during online gaming but so far it didn't I think
-
5.1 Surround got no sounds? You gotta be kidding.
-
I said that the subwoofer doesn't make any sound during the test in "Speakers properties", which is normal
-
However, the Tuba is working while listen to music or playing games. As well as the External Subwoofer too. -
Yeah it always worked for me too.
-
because i hear the tuba sub in the test on my 8930g -
-
I had the same problem in windows 7, awful sounding distorted bass.
I first installed Realtek 2.35 => no solution
The I installed acer eAudio management with the following settings:
5.1 speakers, equalizer set to "dance", swap center/subwoofer output and bass management OFF and Dolby prologic (center width: last mark before wide and dimension: front) and natural bass set to to 3.
With these settings the distortion is really set to a minimum.
Hope it works out for you. -
I have always had a slight problem with the crackling with the sound, the way i fixed it was to set the sound to use LCMP codec and it stopped all the problems, i was using kmplayer though for that.
As for Windows 7, i tried and tried many different drivers and they all came out with different sound problems in them selves, so i decided to have another go with the ones shipped with the laptop for Windows Vista, it wouldn't install - but then i got to thinking about compatibility and i right clicked on the installer and set the compatibility to Windows Vista - i've not had one problem with crackling or anything else since. -
for me ive tested on my windows 7 ... the subwoofer no sound too but it is also no sound when im on vista home premium.
Well here is the story, I actually changed my tuba at acer service centre and upon the collection of my 6920g, I check straight on the audio test. The tuba didnt produce sound too but when they on music then the tuba will produce sound. hope this solve ur doubts. -
for all u people with a 6920g and have upgraded to win 7...
i presume you still have the realtek audio codec alc889 driver that came with it on vista... if u have copy it from disk onto your desktop, then right click on the setup file and select properties. go into compatibility and set it to vista sp2 then check the run as administrator button... save and exit.. now run setup, it will delete any realtek driver u have on ur system then restart.. now hit setup again and it will install and reset.. after reboot play a trak and u'll see all is back to normal... if u also have issues with ur launch manager just go through the same procedure with your original vista driver, and roberts yer fathers brother, cinedash console, tuba etc etc all good as new....
