I'm looking for a program which allows fancontrol on my 6930G.

I tried a few programs for other acers and some make the fan run at full speed but then it slows down again.

I'd like full fanspeed to keep my E8435 cool, currently it hits 85°c at 3ghz 1.125v which i do not consider safe. Heatsinks are hot but the fans still does not spin at max speed so the situation might improve a bit if i could get my the fan to spin harder!

    hello,

I have made a program to control the fan speed on my 6930g. It works perfectly on mine. With it you can set it to run on slow speed or fast. You can turn the fan off (not recommended) or put it back to auto control. I've not tested it on any other 6930g laptops. Do you want to try it to see if it works on yours?

Can you also share the source code? It could be very useful if there are any bugs or if someone wanted to port it to another language or platform. I can see it being ported to Linux or fancontrol info added to existing tools.

    Heres the link

    Acer 6930g fan control.zip

Basically what the gui does is automatically change specific registers of the embedded controller via the rw-everything program. The fan control registers may be different for other models so it might not work for them. Anyway give it a try.

    1. extract the contents of the zip file to your computer

    2. install the rw-everything program on your computer by double clicking "SetupRw-everythingv1.49.exe".

    3. copy the fancontrol folder to the root of your c drive. i.e c:\fancontrol

    4. Now run my program by double clicking fan control (x86).exe (for 32bit operating system) or by double clicking fan control (x64).exe (for 64bit windows operating system).

The program then should open as shown below:

    5. Now click the fan speed you want. Accept any warning messages that pop up. Now if its compatible with your laptop you should hear your fan speed change.

Example if you press the "fast" button your fan speed will permantly run fast until you press the "back to auto" button or reboot your computer.

If my gui doesn't work. You can try manually changing the fan register in the rw-everything program.

    1. Launch the rw-everything folder.
    2. Click on the EC tab to bring up the embedded controller.
    3. Select the fan register (85 for my computer).

    4. Type in another value and press enter. You have to put in a hex value. It's a process of trial and error until you find a value that changes you fan.

01,02,03,04 are usually the auto settings so theres no point trying those values (but you need to use these values later on when you want to put it back into auto)

So for manual control some values you could try first are:

    05
    06
    07
    08
    09
    0A
    0B
    0C
    0D
    0E
    0F
    10
    11
    12
    13
    14
    26
    and so on

In the picture below you'll see that I have changed the value to 0B. This sets my fan to fast. By typing 04 it puts it back to auto.

I've done some updates to my program. I've added an extra button "max" and updated the graphics and icon. This still only works on the 6930g.

    Here's the new link:

Works perfectly on the 6930ZG - just remember to run it as adminstrator.
Wow, when I put it on max it sounds like an airplane, lol!

    hi there

I revive this topic to attach new fan control files.
This one is tested on my Aspire 6930g (original files included didn't worked). This one might work with other models. Please test and report result.

    The values used are:
    Máx - 0x13
    Fast - 0x10
    Slow - 0x2B

    The other two are unchanged.

    cheers

guyz i can't express my gratitude enough for you're dedication to make stuff that work , where others from big developing companies even lack the respect for the costumer and do not even consider making something like this despite the fact that people ask for these tools in order to make the products function properly not even mentioning optimum . thanks again for this wonderfull app that works so well 55C idle -70C(50% load) b.s.o.d. at full % now idle is at 42C , what more can i ask from a straight forward app. that is doing what was intended from it . respect and don't ever forget that these tiny things mean allot for guys that don't have an inclination for programming .

Wondering how do you create the files with your own settings in fancontrol folder. I found my fan settings through rw everything and saved the settings.
I then replaced the files in fancontrol folder and used your program but every time I clicked on one of the buttons it just launches rw everything?

Just discovered this having a browse through the forums, have to say a big thanks for sharing!

My X9100 now idles at 26c on the slow fan setting which is perfect for basic tasks/browsing etc, and max's out at 82c on the high fan setting overclocked to 3.6GHz.

Sadly that one doesn't work on my 6930G, would be cool to have the max speed, but the first version works great, getting my temp idle 27 degrees Celsius on fast and 36 on slow idle

    Thanks :D

Attention that if the first works ok you must stick with it. You only need to change if you changed cpu.

for version 1.1 try this FAN MAX control file: Download FAN MAX.zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

You can also use the fan control files from v1 for slow, fast, auto, off with v1.1.

Hi All....I am using the first version of the Fan Control program...it works great right up until I go to shut down my pc. Because the program overwrites and forces the fan to run flat out it wont turn off during the shut down sequence. Don't get me wrong....if I stop the Fan Control first then shut down all is ok. It is only if I forget to stop the fan control program that my PC locks up during shut down.

Any solutions out there on how to add it to the shut down sequence or something to help me out....

    Hi,

Does someone have the original file for MAX included with 1.1 ? Because I downloaded 1.0 and it works fine, but all the max files from here don't work and original 1.1 link is dead :<

EDIT : I was modifing the hex from the second line of the files but the thing the program use is the number from the 1st line...
So it seams 14 works for now.
