I have recently been in the process of a few minor upgrades to my laptop to try and give it a new lease of life for a couple more years. My first was an upgrade from T6400 to T9550 which had it's own problems (seen in my last thread).
My next step was to upgrade to Win7 Ultimate 64bit so I could increase my RAM, something I have done countless times on desktops and so thought it would/should be equally easy with the laptop.
I used CPUZ to find the specification for my current RAM to make sure of compatibility and then bought some Corsair 4GB sticks. When I put 8GB into my system I was getting a similar situation as when I changed out the processor - it tries to fire up but then shuts down and then tries again but does nothing. After hunting around on the internet I found that a lot of people had the same problem but managed to get 6GB working so this was my next aim. Using a 2 + 4 in every permutation possible I was still getting no luck (I even made sure the BIOS was the same as the people that got it working) but this time it seemed like it was trying to fire but but couldn't. By this I mean that it wasn't going on then off then back on, it was just staying on but with a black screen.
Just for arguments sake I tried just a single stick in there which would make it just 4GB as it currently is. But that still doesn't work. Perhaps I'm being naive but surely, even if the max the mobo can take is 4GB, the single stick should have worked?
I would appreciate any replies to get me going down the right lines.
Thanks
Dan

I believe that particular laptop has a max of 4gb allowed in a 2+2 config for the ram. The max freq ram supported is 1066mhz.
Have a look here for the tech specs:

As I said though, I have seen people getting 6GB working. But if the max is 4GB should the single stick not just work in it?

As I don't have hands on experience with that laptop, I'm going based on the spec sheet and what you've stated with the 6gb and 8gb config's not working.
