Hi all, new member trying to find some answers, after going through nearly 300 pages on the acer forum decided it would be easier to ask my self.

After having a Aspire 6935g for about 5 months now I have the chance to trade it it for a 2nd hand 8935g, now here is my issue, after messing around with my 6935g i have only managed to upgrade the ram and add a ssd, so before i trade mine in for the 8935g just wondered if there are any SOLID upgrade choices for the 8935g such as cpu and gpu.

I am unsure of the exact model of the 8935g but its the one with the 2gb core duo if that helps.

    Thanks in advance.

Yes there are definitely some solid upgrade choices for the GPU, like the ATI 5870m, but you will have to improve the cooling some how.

I would definitely do the trade. It might even support the 7970m, 7850m etc.

You can check the link in my sig to my Gateway nv78 for one alternative cooling method. :)

There are a few other heatsinks you can use with a little modification, the Clevo d901c, x8100, m980nu and a few more use similar heatsinks (some might be bigger and better than mine) :)

I wouldn't go for it because you CAN'T upgrade the GPU.

The newer Acer machines don't use the MXM standard, so the video card is soldered to the board.

Ajbutch dobyou know what your talking about?

The 8935g is the better version of the 8930g which both use the correct McMahon standards. In this case the 8935g uses the 3.0b standard and can take almost most cards currently for that socket.

Never mind... my bad. However, it would require you to disassemble the laptop to change it.

I am used to working with the older models which allow you to see and remove the MXM card by the panel on the bottom of the notebook. :D

    Good luck with the upgrades!

I upgraded my 8935G Quad core to a QX9200 extreme and from ATI 4670 to GTS 250M GPU plus 8gb ram and ssd. They are solid laptops.

I would say GTS 250M is not that a big upgrade - for Nvidia, I believe the 8935G can even take a GTX 680M.
