    hello,

i have a spare 7200rpm hitachi drive, and i tried to put it into my new 3690-BL50 but it doesnt boot from it. the bios reads it and then i get a black screen with some wierdo signs. i can only take picture of the screen if interested.

the bios it is upgraded to latest. any ideas? the only thing i can think of is that the bios/mb doesnt support 7200hdd due to higher power consumption and heat

    thanks for any inputs,

    dorin

Quick question (yes I know it's dumb, but just to check) what do you have installed on it to boot from? I.E. Windows, Linux, XP, Vista, Dos etc etc

Here's another dumb question or 2: Are you sure that Hitachi drive is the same interface as the old drive, or at least compatible with the interface of the computer?

Are you sure that Hitachi drive that's been sitting around still works at all? Can you try it in another computer that you have known it to work before?

Just some other things to think about.

i took the 7200 from the ultrabay hdd adapter of my thinkpad x40, and the x40 reads both 7200 and acer's 5400 as well i can boot from both. i will make a pic an show it to you, that wiered error...
the 7200 has winxp pro (oem ibm)...is it possible to be locked the boot sequence of an oem win to its mb/bios?

    thanks

That doesn't answer any of my questions definitely... It's possible the drive is a later version of a standard that the x40 can read, but not the 5400.
