Hello everybody , i am so glad i find and join this great site.I am looking for some help with my Acer 7520G which for about 3 months now has been giving me problems and recently has quit completely to work.
A quick journal of failure 7520g:
1)playing COD and similar games i noticed lots of lags, changed drivers but the problems remained and gradually got worst.I OC the 8600m gs and finally i had to remove the nvidia drivers because the screen in win7 was locking up.It worked with the standard vga drivers just as a laptop for internet access, youtube etc.
2)Cooked the Gpu worked for a month then back to standard vga
3)acer logo boots ,before win7 boots the cpu restars again and again...
4)the laptop opens the hdd is heard but there is the endless cycle of rebooting and switching off by it self
5)Hot aired the nvidia chipset on the mobo yestarday, didnt work

So i am having a plan in my mind, keep caddy and slowly keep upgrading the whole system.
A)Motherboard -Has anyone buy one from ebay? warnings, advices welcomed!
B)whats the best GPU mxm type II (money aside). Is the ati 4670 still considered the best gaming card i can put inside?will it work with the 7520g?What could i do to make it perform
C)CPU i want to try the TL-68 .does the 1.33 bios work with this?Is there a modded one?
D)Can i exceed the 4GB limits of ram?
With rough calculations i estimate about 450-500 euros for new M/B,CPU,GPU.
How good you think this will work on the new games such as COD-mw3...

I know too many questions.have already have gone through many threads, i am looking for a more condensed theadon experimenting/upgrading 7520G!

    Thank you all!

Motherboard: Why do you want to replace it?

GPU: The HD4670 DDR 3 is the best card in existence. However, the one on eBay is DDR 2, which is much slower. Instead, I'd recommend the GT 240M: Asus C90S C90P nVidia GT 240M 1GB DDR3 MXM II VGA Card | eBay

This one is DDR3, and will score about the same as an HD4650 DDR3. (The HD4670 DDR2 is about on par with the 9600M GT DDR3 - DDR2 memory is *that* slow.)

    CPU: No idea.

RAM: >4GB is highly unlikely; AFA<!-- -->IK 2x2GB is the largest JEDEC-standard size for DDR2 SDRAM. Anything bigger is a vendor-proprietary extension.

Your symptoms all point to the GPU being faulty. No need to replace the motherboard. Also, the only other (different) motherboard that will fit is the 7720G one, which takes an Intel CPU (up to T9500, or possibly X9000).

My advise: Dump the 7520G - even if you have "only" a graphic card failure, it is bound to get a northbridge failure, where it hangs in an endless reboot loop - this might even already be the case for you.

Can you shut down the system, by pressing the power button long enough? Or do you have to remove the battery and disconnect it from the mains?

If the second scenario is true for you, than you have a mal-functioning mainboard.

Baking the mainboard might work, but the problem will return!

The 7520G is a mess - it either ends with the reboot loop, or your 8400M/8600M dies.

Maybe try to fix it cheaply, i.e with baking, sell it on ebay clearly marking it as repair-ware, and get a new one.

    My 2ยข

    Good luck!

In that case, a motherboard change to 7720G is really a good idea (the 7720G northbridge is pretty stable); especially since you are also upgrading the CPU. Keep in mind that the 7720G MB needs an Intel CPU, and won't take the TL-68.

(Didn't know the nForce N/B is also Bumpgate-y.)
