Hi guys![]()
Since I´ve upgraded BIOS to v1.34, when I switch on my laptop the screen goes totally blank or freezes at Acer logo (no Hdd led activity neither). I have to swith it off (by pressing button for 5 sec), wait 5-10 seconds and then switch it on again, and everything goes normal at this 2 attempt.
I´ve tried DOS flash and Windows flash, but the issue still remains. I´m waiting to v1.35 to try it, but since this update has solved the F@#%**G sound problems, I guess (and fear) Acer guys will "relaxe" a little bit.... Even if downgrading to v1.33 does solve this weird freeze, it´ll be turning back to sound issues, and believe me, that is one thing I do not want to do!!!

Anyone with the same probleme out there??? Any ideas???![]()
As always, my kindest regards![]()

my Aspire 5315 is based on the same mainboard and uses the same BIOS....
I too have noticed the problem... especially if a CD/DVD is in the drive when first powering up.... i wondered about this..
i guess this confirms that it is a BIOS issue... hopefully 1.35 will be here soon

As you say, hopefully 1.35 will arrive soon. At least it´s good to kwow that I´m not the only one experiencing this issue
Kind Regards!!!
PD: I did not found any lcd driver(yet

i sent a tech request to acer to inform them of this problem,,, and they want me to send my PC in for repair... yeah, right...
we all need to bombard them with email and phone calls reguarding this issue to draw attention to this problem,,, i have a feeling that is the only way we will see this issue resolved...
later,
bigO -
¿¿¿ Send it in for repair ???
God this guys are HILARIOUS!!!
I am also suspecting that v1.35 (hopefully the answer to our problem) is gonna take a little more than expected. They may be thinking "ok ok, we´ve solved your sound issues, ¿¿¿now what??? Don´t bother anymore...". Only thinking of this makes me go wild
.
If you give me the exact adress where you´ve send your e-mail, I will send one to (if you want also show me what you´ve written so I do more or less the same. Calling is not an option for me since I am in Argentina and we don´t have official tech support here
.
It sorprises me that we are the only ones to have stated this at the forum.... No one else is experiencing this???
Kind Regards -
I'm with 5715Z and updated to 1.34 just yesterday but this is not happening to me..What motherboard you guys have? Acadia?
By the way what if you remove the "quick boot" from the bios? Just a thought, no so technical -
Thanks for the thougth dude
Unluckily, I´ve already tried several BIOS mods to see if they might have any effects on this (password on/off, QuickBoot-NetworkBoot-D2dRecovery on/off, etc, etc, etc.), but no happy results tough.
Regards -
didn't know the 5715 was Acadia based... learn something everyday @ NBR -
Well I have dual-boot xp - vista home premium, did the upgrade under vista. The major pro for me(I'm not sure if it came from the bios though) is that the temp of my cpu droped from 45ºC to 25ºC.
And I've never experience any sound issues, I mean yeah I read the readme and saw something about sound problems being fixed but never had any, maybe its a different Acadia ? Don't know the exact model of mine, you know how can I find out?
Maybe this freezing thing can be something related to the usb devices attached? In my case the ACER logo screens stays for about 20 seconds with 4 usb devices(2 hdds, cd-rom, mouse). -
the problem goes away if i downgrade the bios back to ver 1.33,,
so it's some little glitch between the bios and MB,,, unless it is freezing after checking the MBR and seeing XP data instead of the VISTA MBR??
really reaching for answers if ya can't tell,

And yet this update is only available under Vista. Or at least I could find only Vista version.
-
any BIOS that works w/ vista is backwards compatible w/ XP....
the only difference is some sort of ID info that VISTA must have,,, XP just ignores that section of the BIOS... there is a thread on the difference some where,, it was about 2 months ago....
everyone was wondering why there was no XP bios updates,,, turns out ACER is just trying to push everyone to VISTA -
Yeah... Keep pushing Acer, I will not move even an inch...
-
XP for ever... or till Windows7
oops double post.... see what sunday causes -
just posting bios downgrade result....
i'm gonna reflash and then change ram back to factory ram as see if cold boot error is still there.
oh yeah forgot this.. link to downgrading 5315 bios back to v 1.33 (download you model if other than a 5315)

Re: bios update to 1.34?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i think the cold boot problem only happens with certain versions of the mainboard,,, but i'm not sure..
i downgraded my bios when i made the previous post,,, and then shutdown for about 30 mins,,, and had no problems doing a COLD BOOT after going back 1.33
sc00trex,, you will be fine w/ v 1.34,,, you may have to restart the PC twice when first booting from a powered off state...
shutdown,,, let your PC set a few minutes and reboot and tell me what happens,, post results at this link:
