    Hey Guys!

I have a huge favour to ask you guys?

And I apologise for the long description, but please bare with me?!?! :p

Basically, I was cleaning my Aspire 7720G screen earlier, when all of a sudden the screen flickered.
I thought, as it has done it before, closing and opening the lid with the laptop on, that it would come back on. (has done it before when opening the laptop after been closed whilst stil switched on and occasionally when open and at a certain pitch angle)

I did, but with a 3RD of the screen (at the bottom) was simply white.
Then it displayed some lines, then went white, and now just displays lines on the bottom 3rd of the screen. No image at the bottom third.

At this point, I panicked and switch off the laptop, and also took the battery out and left it to cool. (and calm down)

I might add that it has been on for a couple of days (on a cooling plate) whilst it was downloading some stuff. Heat possibly?

When i plugged the battery in, 2 hours later, it did the same thing, straight afetr being switched on.
So I decided to try a monitor plugged into the dvi slot (and have also tested the vga), and hey presto, a full clean image.

This leads me to believe that the laptops internal screen has gone (and not the GPU overheating).
So I took it to bits and looked at the connections to ensure that no cables have been damged (Usually around the screen hinges), but all is well and good.

I did however, find a small broken plastic clip (3mm x 6mm), that appeared to be "wedged" behind one of the plastic strips that run along the back of the LCD panel, and have wonderd if the additional pressure from cleaning the screen could have dameged the back of the panel and caused it to fail?

I can manage using the secondary monitor via the dvi and can use my tv also (used for watching films) for a short time until I can fix it.

The Laptop is also now out of warranty (18 months old).

    My questions to you are:
1 - Is it possible that a little piece of plastic, coupled with the clening of the screen cause it to fail?
2 - If not, Could it be heat or something else?
3 - Is the best fix going to be to replace the screen, or is there a more common fix?
4 - Where is the best (and cheapest) place to get a replacement screen or part required from?
5 - could it be the little controller thingy positioned just below the screen?

I am really sorry for the essay and hope that someone can point me in the right direction!

    Thanks again!! :D

    RobbieG :p :D

    most likely....

while cleaning your screen liquid got into your lcd causing the lcd to fail. Or just like you said, you pressed to hard on the screen. Being that you left it alone and it still has lines, you are going to have to replace the lcd.

    Thanks dude!!

It is as I thought tho, because the screen has now got worse and most of the screen is dead!! There is a small bit in the top left corner working and if you flex the screen, the image partially returns.

However, there is a couple of small black blotches that (although are small), are beginning to show up. Leads me to believe that the LCD is indeed knackerd!!!
Although, my suspictions with the small black piece of plastic was found is EXACTLY where the biggest black blotch is. Meaning that most likely, this is where the initial damage came from.

Just on another note, the screen in only cleaned with a small LCD cleaning cloth, that is pre-treated and is almost dry to the touch!!

    Thanks for the info tho.
Do you know where the best place to get one from by any chance??

    Thanks, RobbieG!!! :D
