Hi guys. Just upgradeed from 3GB to 4GB and had a look at the CPU cooler (my lovely SP9400, 25W, 6Mb cache, 45nm, 2.4GHz its on its way from taiwan).
The existing memory was nanya 2G+1G ddr2-667. I've bought a new Kingston stick, 2GB ddr2-800 and made the swap. The lappy works fine.
Next week (probably friday) I'm gonna post the CPU upgrade process and some tests, before and after, maybe someone will find it interesting.
Finally, various pictures...

Cool stuff thanks, looking forward to the CPU upgrade. I hope you make some pictures of it too.
Maybe later you could make a big thread with all the upgrades with photos and instructions and everything -
CS Source Performance.
The game works like a charm, although there's a "lag" in intense fighting. Remember that HL2 and CSS are very CPU dependent. Hope the upgrade from T5800 to SP9400 to improve the fps quite much. Now I'm getting (I play with vsink ON) 59fps most of the time but in intense fighting I'm getting a min 35fps which is not a good thing for a FPS game.
In the pic below: 1440x900, all high, no AA, no AF, vsink OFF, stress test.

I thought the SP9400 is in BGA format only so it is supposed to be soldered on the board and it should be compatible with the GS45 chipset. This is a low voltage chipset for small factor laptops. Also the CPU is smaller (22mm package, hence the S in front of the name) compared to normal Core2Duo CPUs (35mm package). Is it compatible with your laptop's socket?

I'm getting an ES chip which is a FCPGA 478pin. 100% compatible. Next week, more pictures

Ok, good luck mate. I just upgraded from a T7300 to a new T9300 and I am very pleased with the results, especially in games like World In Conflict which is very CPU demanding but also in games like GRID.
Do some benchmarks like wPrime 32M and 1024M or Cinebench R10 and 3Dmark06. I hope everything goes well.
Let us know how it went. -
CInebench R10 default tests. Multi CPU, GPU.
WPrime 32/1024 tests.

My results on the same benchmarks after the upgrade can be seen in the pics. I don't understand why my GPU is higher than yours, it should have been the other way round (maybe the drivers?).
At least you know what kind of performance increase you can expect when you put your new CPU. You should get a bit higher score though especially with the cinebench r10 because you are using the 64bit, I think it runs much faster in 64bit.Attached Files:

Thanks nklive. The truth is I'm excited by that 25W tdp spec. Hope my lappy will be much cooler and substantially less louder.
And yes, I'll try to change my video card driver. The one I have now is the default vista one from the setup. -
I've completed the CPU swap T5800 --> SP9400. The results are amazing!!!!
Not only the CPU is way more potent, but the temperatures dropped 25C, in fact my fan stays mostly OFF, even when I'm playing CS Source!!!
I'm attaching pictures!

Hello, do you think you can tell me if the 7730g has two hard disk slots ?
thanks for the info. -
yes it does have 2 hdd slots. Ask away any question, I'll answer it! The platform 7730G is perfect for upgrading, its the most cost effective laptop at the moment. The only down side is the cooler which is a bit erratic but gets the job done though.
I also have a 6930ZG but this platform does not support upgrading (only in winter time) because of the heat restrictions. Its to small for faster CPUs or GPU's (although it supports 9600GT and P9800)

I opened mine and noticed that there is a grey thing on top of the sata interface. I opened the left compartment and noticed that there is a piece of hardware that you should add in order to have the extension possibility.
any ideas on that ? myabe a hard disk adding tutorial ?
greets
