Hello All,
I bought a q9000 and tried on my 6930G with no luck. I cant believe it does not support the chip even after having the PM45 chipset. Do all 7738Gs actually have support for quad cores?
Cheers,
G...

Quads require specific power circuitry.
While the PM45 does support quad cores, unless its shipped with one then the machine likely does not have the cooling and/or power circuitry.
The good news is that the 7738g is the only acer known so far to accept higher quads than the q9000.
If your 7738g came with a quad you can just buy a Q9100/Q9200 (ES)/QX9300.
If your 7738g came with a dual then you will need:
Quad heatsink
120W power adaptor
Also the 7738g will take the HD6770M so you might want to look into that =) -
Thanks.
The one I am looking at is a core 2 duo one - would that take a q9000? and also do I definitely need a 120W adaptor - would it not work otherwise(on the battery?)..
Also , would I be able to make do with the cooler on it already? -

These beasts are hungry so I would not push a 90W brick. Also you need the cooler, partly because its better and partly for the larger contact area.

Thanks Meaker. I am looking at a 7738 g with a core 2 duo. I have the quad core q9000 - I am thinking if I should return it or try it on my 5935G. I sold my 6930G today. I am actually looking for a MXM option system with quad core support.... are there any newer models which do the MXM?

8940G was the last, also the only MXM system by acer to have a core i7.
