I seem to be getting a rather low 3dmark06 score with my new 8204 (1200 ish). I have the latest ati drivers from acer euro ftp installed.

Also, under "system" in control panel, its giving a weird cpu speed reading.

    Here is what it says:

    Computer:
    Genuine Intel CPU
    T2500 @ 2.00 GHz
    1.00 GHz, 2.00 GB RAM
    Physical Address Extension

Why only 1.00 GHz on the fourth line? And what does "Physical Address Extension" mean?

    Thanks.

The 1.0GHz speed is due to Speedstep which basically clocks down the cpu and reduces the voltage saving power and enhancing battery life. It should go upto full speed underload. Try seeing the clock speed when running a cpu intensive program.

Physical address extension is most probably due to the presence of DEP(Data Execution Prevention) which basically is a hardware feature meant to protect aganist exploitation by viruses and such stuff. Physical address extension is a required part for DEP to function.

Are these all good things? Or should I be turning something off?

Speedstep is very good in conserving power and reducing heat output. but if you are using the laptop as a desktop replacement with good cooling then turning it off wouldnt hurt. Just changing the power settings(Control panel) to Always On should let the cpu run at full speed. But if you do want better battery life and less heat from the cpu then let it be in the Speedstep mode.

DEP is effective, I wouldnt turn it off. Read the below linked article...
